The pickup coils on the Kawasaki’s with the factory supplied electronic ignition can sometimes fail or become intermittent due to heat and vibration.

1.Trace back from where the pick up coils are mounted,(under a right side CD sized cover) locate and disconnect a small 4 pin connector. Using a multi-meter set on OHMS and range of X 100 check between the BLUE and BLACK wires(#1 and #4 sparkplug wires) for between 360- 540 OHMS.

2.For #2 and #3 sparkplugs the wire colors will be YELLOW and RED, again 360-540 OHMS.
found this but reading it does not give the blue with red trace location ??

I can't even trace the wire, as it's only about two feet long and the other end appears to have been of fire for a little while. I am also having trouble with the colours of the wire, due to the fact one of the previous owners has painted the frame black without taking the loom out.

Just a shot in the dark old boy but it might be an earth shield wire , Often used with inductive pickups on cars to prevent false triggering. Where does it come out on loom or havent you been able to trace it back ? Looks to have a split spade crimped on the end from photo ? This would also suggest it goes under a mounting bolt perhaps ?

If the other end is loose with no apparent conection I'd say earth shield .
