what sort of riding are you gonig to do? If it's trail kind of stuff both of those bikes will be no good to you.

I am looking for something i can road register and ride trails. Older 4 stroke enduro bikes can cost a fortune to rebuild $$$
If i was going MX bike it wold have to be a oil burner 2 stroke... Heaps of fun and cheap to rebuild.
I did have a go on YZ 125 last weekend and it was a hoot :)
Thanks.

if you're worried about rebuild costs then a motorcrosser is going to require more frequent rebuilds... therefore more cost.

So you want a registerable, so it has to be an enduro type model, but you want a 2 stroke... how about a KTM 250 from the late 90s? they are pretty good and reasonably reliable i think.

Yeah, would love to get a KTM 200, 250,300 EXC but they are out of my budget at the moment :( need something 2k and under. I know its a big ask :(

Xr's hold their value well.
I'd been looking for the best part of a year for a cheapy for my build.
Doubt you'll find a decent one thats rego'd for under 2k.
You might find a rough xr250 for that??

The 250's and 400's are about the same price. it was a $15 upgrade to get the 400.

and looks very tidy too.

not so much anymore, she's had close ups of the dirt and attacked trees since then ... :p

Yeah that happens... my DRZ400e does that on a regular basis... in fact its a special ride if i don't fall off.

Yeah I had a XR400 about 4 years ago. Paid $3k and it was great accept for one thing..... The kick start sucked a giant arse !!!! especially if you drop it and flood it :(
I am partial to DRZ400 though and it is a Suzuki :) would be a good match to my Gixxer :)
But i have to say i loved the 2 strokes and 85kg of yz 125 its like mountain bike in size but hammers.
