Just picked this up for a buck fifty lol,, shes supposed to be a good runner
but not batty and a few other bits n pcs so just gunna tear it down and
deal with it later,, let the fun begin :p

Good Purchase.
I kept coming across these for butchery when i was younger. They're a good little engine and as they share cases withe the GS500 an engine upgrade is easy.
The most fun one i did, was jacked up with motorcross running gear and stock rims on raod tyres to make a sort of Motard. Lots of fun, load pipe and completely mad ;)
Another mate had one and we started fitting the running gear from a blown up ZZR250. The rear end went straight in with only about 2mm to grind off each side, GSX bolt and bearing sleaves in the ZZR swingarm bearings, bored out the centre stand bracket to take the rocker linkage, then just welded in a crossmember to take the top shock mount. Trickiest thing was offset front sprocket, cant remember how much offset but didnt have to cut frame for clearance so couldnt of been too much.

Have fun with it anyway.

Funny you said that i am looking at motocross gear right now :p started thinking 2 stroke 250 now im thinking
4 stroke 450 engine,, i spose that will depend on what is available for the right price and if its worth it or not.

wouldnt mind getting some rego on it first,, anyone willing to do me a roady hahaha

Yeah, i used honda MTX125 forks with an XL250 wheel (one of those G'hay 23" ones) to start off with but soon changed the wheel back to the stocker. Forks were air over oil so could be pumped up to carry the weight but were still a bit soft.
Rear end was all stock parts just reworked for more lift, stock shock mounts cut off, welded into the ends of a tube which in turn was welded back to the frame lower down to lift the back end.Plus cut the shock plates off the arm and welded them back on abit firther along to keep the same shock angle as standard. But i remember quickly running into problems with the chain rubbing over the arm so ended up cutting swingarm bushes out of frame and remounting lower to keep the pivot in the centre of the new chain run. A little bit of work but cutting and welding is basically free and at the time i had endless time and limited money so was happy to do it (unlike now when i have limted money and limited time!!!).
Anyway, mate should be fun, and keep us posted.

just went down to the local bike shop to get some wheel bearings and got talking to one of the mechanics mike,, turns out he knew a guy that had a 83 GSX 250 with a fucked out engine,, an hour later i was minus one
engine that i didnt even want and rolling this 86 TZR 250 up on the ute and driving down the road with the biggest fucken smile you ever seen :cool:

I see you have not only painted the GSX, but the TZR also looks like it got a lick of paint!! You building 2 bikes at once?

What tyres are you running on the TZR ?

there just the old shit that was on it so i can roll it around 130 17 70
as for what will end up on it im not sure,, you can see by the stickers
though the bikes a bit confused as to what it wants atm hahaha
