7 weeks till AFR and I've decided I want a comfy ride to get there and back so I've finally started work on the other 1400-

Has some engine damage, so in the immortal words of Fred Gassit, we're gonna hafta split the cases!

So I dragged the bike into the workshop, with a bit of help-

http://img6.uploadhouse.com/fileuploads/15563/1556362681e3e948cf93c978f4db45a8d11bd697.jpg

And dropped the plant-

Need to make an upside down stand and split the cases. Also need to order a few covers/gaskets/stickers etc.

Will update as I go, but I really need to be going for rego by the first week of march

how did the crank fair in the smash ,no damage,or is it purely case repair

Large
11-02-2012, 06:05 PM
Crank's fine, just the cases and pickup etc so far. Parts list is about $600 or about $1000 with the fucking tank stickers.

Interesting thread Mr Large.

I looked at a couple of bikes at the Auctions that had taken
a knock to the ends of the motor but I left them alone as I
wasnt confident in guessing how much damage it could do.

Back on topic- the cases were split-

http://img0.uploadhouse.com/fileuploads/15648/1564825096f40be086a6dc6caa0cd0682c458491.jpg

So rocks could be cleared from the crank and sump while Ben did some really nice welding repairs to the lower case. I haven't got any pics of the work, but I'm hoping Ben might chime in with a couple.

As a bonus, I found I had a Superbike spec clutch with a Slipper Clutch/Back Torque Limiter!!!-

These modern motorbicycles are a miracle of engineering!

http://img2.uploadhouse.com/fileuploads/15648/156482923e6e9cc2766ee7cd142519e59100910c.jpg

And this is how it looked a couple of hours ago-

I've now got all the wiring hooked up- except for the headlights and instruments. Hopefully kicking it in the cunt tomorrow.

I think I get what you're saying Andrew, but atm I've only got one registered bike, and the last time I rode to Macksville it was a 1150k round trip over two days just to get there and back, and I'd like to do it in some comfort.

Good time to get rid of it then !

Busa/B-Kings have kits to remove them but i've seen
posts on here saying you can weld them up.

Not a fan of them at all if your launching hard.
This is going into mine.

So I bought another 1400 today for the other bits I need like instruments and an unbent oil cooler.

http://img1.uploadhouse.com/fileuploads/15721/157212711a3cb8b0113c50167fa925dbf92b9009.jpg

As a bonus it has a full Yoshi system (few scratches), PCIII and polished wheels.

I'm also thinking a 1400 moteur could be the go for my buggy project.

Nah.

I've just worked out that it's a lot cheaper to buy a whole bike for the parts you need and sell the rest, than it is to buy new parts or parts from wreckers

Large
10-03-2012, 03:53 PM
So it's up and running. Even has the 15kg stock exhaust on it for rego.

As a bonus, Kev turned up with my new seat this arvo. As usual, he's done a really nice job, just as I asked, and a nice price too. Cheers Kev.

There's no silly questions Albi.

I sold my other 1400 and the Spondon makes my piles play up.

AFR2012 will be a 1200+k ride, so I'm going for comfort all the way.
