OK, some pathetic, snivelling little piece of dogshit oxygen thief has given me a virus on my laptop, I turn the thing on & it won't start up, I get a message that says -
"Explorer EXE - Unable to locate component" in the header bar &
"This application has failed to start because iertutil.dll was not found. Re -instaling the application may fix this problem."
Can I fix it myself with some guidance from a Guru or do I hafta take it to a repairman?

Follow this, but try the "Last Known Good Configuration" first.

Forget 'last good', and go back as far as possible. If that still doesn't work, well, you're fucked. Do I get the feeling for it to be this bad that it's been playing up a bit over the last few weeks and you've been putting up with it rather than sorting it?

I dunno how to go back anywhere Si & nah, it just started last night.
Still not sorted, anyone... ?

And here I was thinking some slapper had given you Herpes or the like...

Use Avast anti virus (its free and works well) once you get sorted mate.

Our Techos just took my laptop away with exactly the same issue.

Fucken turds, who gets the time to fuck around and do this shit, surely they'd be better off doing something fucken useful in life.

BTW, Deano had the same problem the other day, so it must be going around. He fixed it by copying good versions of the effected files from a computer that wasn't effected.

What Travis said. Easy fix. The dll file is in explorer normally but won't start the comp without it. I had a background but no icons.

To fix it I saved a copy of the dll file from my laptop to a USB then fired up my comp. at the desktop I hit ctl alt del and started new task. Browsed to my USB drive select copy for the dll file then browsed to the windows system 32 folder and paste the file in there. Restarted comp and all fixed. Can't use ie anymore as it wong open or diwnload a new copy but comp works at least

Explorer will be what let it the virus in in the first place mate. Count it as a blessing that it won't open.

It's "Explore" that is having issues... not "ExploreR"

Explore is pretty much your desktop and start menu and file system and whatnot.

ExploreR is the worst web browser in the history of man kind.

I found an online tutorial & it said to do exactly what the Mean Dean Machine did, seeing as it worked for him it should work for me too so I'll try that.
Thanx lads.
