Hey all, i am turning my 1989 gsxr 750 into a fighter. Decided to use the yamaha R1 tail section. Anybody have an easier route than me using a whole new fabricated subframe?
thanks

Do what I did and use the R1 subframe by making some mounts for it. Which model are you keen on?

What seifer said is the easiest way mate. Also helps the cause if you need a new one after bending a custom made one. Mine was custom made:

I was going to use the 1999 r1 tailpeice because i have one. but apparently the subframe from that year is welded on. So i am finding it difficult to locate one that somebody isnt using on there frame allready..

I've got a 98 model R1 seat and subframe on mine. I just asked the wreckers for "that bit" and pointed at the back of a wrecked R1. they grabbed a grinder, and cut it off for me. They took out the wiring harness and i took the seat/suframe/indicators etc.

+1 For the complete subframe job Botty.
All the original bits fit like tail lights and tray and stuff and you can just go and buy an aftermarket undertray or whatever you like. Finding replacement parts is as simple as going to a wrecker if you ever crash it.
It's not really that difficult, you just need to make up a coupla alloy tabs and have them tig welded to the frame to bolt your subframe on.

Here's one I prepared earlier.....

Although this is a K1 Gixer tail, the theory is the same.

I just read the bit about the subframe being weld on, I guess you could just get the R1 subframe welded straight onto your chassis but I would consider making it a bolt on set up on some tabs (similar to above) but have rose joints on the bottom arms so you have some height adjustment of the tail. If I was more clever than I am, I would have done that with the bike above.
