Hi guys.
newby here hoping to get some info on a damaged bike i just bought at an auction.
I dont pick it up till friday so wont know the extent of the damage till then.
the forks were totally ripped off it and im looking to replace them with anything that will fit. even a jap front end will do but i guess ill need the original ducati triple clamps and wheel. hopefully the front wheel will be ok and maybe the forks wont even be bent (yeah right!).
the bike is a 996 or 998 monster. 12/96 model.
Also anyone familiar with the immobiliser on these. I didnt realsie till after i won the auction it didnt have a key-DUH! bad bad bad!
any help greatly appreciated!
cheers!

Might be an idea to head over to the 'welcome to the madness' section and introduce yourself first....

She looks pretty well fucked.
The headstem looks all wrong,so frame probably fucked.
And having no keys,i gonna be a royal pain in the arse.
Hope you didn't pay much for it.

Is there a reason you hardly ever see Ducati SSSA's on different bikes??

They look a shit load better than the VFR ones,so there must be a reason.
They seem to be cheap as,especially the Hypermotard ones in the US.

been a while since ive been back online guys. great comments and too true about getting rid of it.
I really wanted to get her up & running but the key was the killer. the frame was ok though. just needed forks/headlight/radiator etc. Sent the dash and ecu to the uk and they couildnt crack the immobilizer, so i gave up. sold her in parts and more than tripled on the original purchase.

regarding using the donk in another bike well the swingarm and engine will only fit that frame. A bit of a rarity as they only were produced like that for a couple of years.

I nearly used the tank and rear end on another bike though:http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk233/dakomoto/project%20xt660/2012-04-07131555.jpg

this was an xt660r. gave up on it and parted it out as well! I couldnt get the forks to not hit the bloody tank!

Get a complete Ducati Monster front end that you want, drop your front end out, check out the stems in both units. If the stem is identical on the Ducati front end then happy days, bolt it in. If it isn't the same diametre or length, get the stem from your Honda and press it into the Ducati front end if the bottom clamp will accept it. If not, get a new stem machined up and Bob's your father's brother.

Oh, and welcome aboard mate.
