Well while i was up in coffs hbr seeing the old man, came a cross a bike. Decided it would be good enough for me and ended up riding it back to sydney.

Here she is in all her standard glory...

Few things need to be changed on it. Those mirrors and bars have to go along with the headlight.

Will update thread with what happens. But i feel its not a bad start.

Nice little bikes.

Frames always have that little hint at a Harris to me.

Good little starting base you have there, already naked! Colour looks alright for a stock bike too.

I love speed tripple mirrors.. So looking for something of the likes..

I also love cheap nasty diy... So grabbed these on ebay.

Other great news i have a Shoei head... Nothing else fits besides dualsports.

Only other helmet that didnt seem to hit my jaw was rjays GP3. Mrs got me one in matt black (she wouldnt let me get an icon variant apparently it looks faggy time )

Still considering painting the bike. Someone borrowed my air compressor and it has not yet been returned.

What a great project bike to cut your teeth on mate, and a really trick stock frame. I would have a good look around the site and try to get a picture in your head of where you want it to be in a few months.

went to mca's today to get my renthal fighter bars and some risers. apparently they dont have anything
for my 1990 bandit that would fit because i have the "gp style handlebars(or whatever they are) not the ones that come with risers anyway like the later model bandits.

So apparently if i changed them my forks would sit too high and get in the way.

these could be made to fit, do a search and find how

A mate decided to "fix" my chain slack, im new to bikes so i assumed he knew better, he fucked something... Chain was making the worst noise.

I think he only adjusted one side of the swing arm. Quick youtube look and the tape measure comes out and i fixed it.

Also wents to mca's to and got 4 unifilters for the carbs. Sadly they dont fit the overall dia is too large for them to sit next to each other oh wlel ill make something fit.Ill make something fit..

Im waiting on these headlights once they arrive i will be happy.

AS you can see from the above pic would need a fair few " in risers to get above the forks...

To be honest mate stick with the stock airbox and put a new clean filter in....you'll have a whole load of jetting issues with the pods and, no offence, but if you need to read how to adjust the chain you sure as hell dont wanna mess with the carbies..

None taken. As i said im new to bikes.. Built lots of drift cars and no bikes.

Also new to carbs all cars have been injected. So its all a learning curve.

Just make sure he hasn't over tightened the chain mate. It's not meant to be a bow string. Get the back wheel off the ground and rotate it by hand checking the chain every few inches. You want it to have about 1 inch play up and down on the tightest spot. Check for tight spots where it's been stretched. If in the tight spots it's got the correct play but in the loose spots it's stupid loose then you're in for a new chain. I know this is obvious stuff for most guys here and they don't need to read this but it's a classic newbie mistake to tighten it correctly in a loose spot and not check the rest, then when the tight spot comes around you pull the fuck out of your drive shaft and fuck much more than just the chain. Trust me, I did it on my first bike.

Thanks mate,

Its only something you know if you have been around bikes (how would i know it needs 1" of slack in all places unless i have been told or read that) .

Anyway the joyous occasion where you need to shorten a loom so crap isnt everywhere...

Time to get to it and piss those wires off..

Owner before me snapped 1 bar end looks like ill need to drill the bolt out to get it off. Wish the rain would piss off as garage is full and i dont want to be sitting outside going through all those wires.

Looking better already.

Bit of a jump from a 250 to a 1000. Personally I had three 600's (Hornet, R6 and GPZ) before buying the R1. there's a big difference in power from the 250.

The light look good on the bike. If you want to put handlebars on, you could either look for a longer set of risers, or else get what you can find and get a spacer made up for under it. Then just replace the mounting bolts with longer ones to suit.

I agreewith you @wackyrider. I have been away and riding my dads zx9r and its like comparing running to mach3.

My bridge bike will be a ducati 750 paso that needs some restoration.

In regards to the handle bars the best bet i think would be to swap tripple clamp to the gsf250 that runs a single piece bar not clip ons.

Such as the bike above...

Then change them for something similar to the bike below.

Nice start you have there, How much roughly did you pay for the little green machine?

Just to clear up the chain adjustment for you so you have a better idea
If you line up the front sprocket & swingarm pivot point in a straight line to the rear axle this is where your chain should be adjusted, Basically this is where the front & rear sprockets are the furtherest apart, If you adjust your chain while it is on the stand it will be super tight when the suspension compresses & will either stretch the shit out of your chain or possibly even (Unlikely) snap it, Could also cause damage to your motor/sprocket shaft & bearings etc
If the 3 points are not lined up, Have someone sit on the bike to get the rear swingarm inline with the front sprocket & pivot then adjust the chain so it has about 1"+ of movement & you should be good to go

Just make sure it is not too tight when the sprockets are at the point mentioned the furtherest distance apart
This pics should give you an idea of what I mean, Hopefully not confuse you more?

Changing the top clamp would be a nice easy way out to get some MX or drag style bars fitted

Not recommended for a beginner but the other option is to drill the top clamp>

RHK risers are very reasonably priced & are available at just about any motorbike shop>

I got it back on friday, i just changed sprockets/chain and clutch had died doing my p's rider course.

Apparently it had undersized sprockets on it. So with stocko ones on now the bike is totally different. Its almost ridiculous how much better it rides and takes off...

Although at 100kmh im sitting on 10k in fith now.

I didnt think i could use bar risers with the style of bars I have? Or have i missed something.

Also the link to drilling you put up i cant access for some reason?
