Just sounds like either a loose wire or bad earth. I'd be looking at pulling the seat/tank off and checking\cleaning all terminals from the battery through to the fuse and ignition, disconnect the earths from the frame clean and put back together.

The starting without fuse would indicate that the positive is earthing out somewhere it shouldn't.
