hey Jinx thanks for the info i kinda like that 1 . and its cheap enough to buy it and if i dont like it its not a big loss :) Cheers

They take about a week to arrive from WA. Sizes are the about right as I take a M in all my other lids and the M fit when I tried a Trekker at the shop. The iridium shields are cheaper from the US and I think there is a couple of plastic caps for taking the visor off, just have to find someone that ships to Oz.

The RHOK helmet in the black carbon fibre looks good.

Done some research and this US company have a flat $35 shipping on normal size stuff to Oz. The prices for their street gear and accesories looks competitive too. I ordered 3 iridium shields, ratchet plates and conversion kit for the Trekker helmet, $133 delivered.
One thievin fuck wanted $175 just for shipping and $230 for express mail.

I bought a matt black Trekker about 6 months ago and love it. I thought the same thing about the price (if I dont like it, no big loss), but I wear it more than my new Shoei. It was the first "dual sport" type helmet that I tried, that I could see the peak. I like the idea that I can tilt my head down and block the sun with the peak. It doesnt catch the wind like I thought it would either!

I just bought an Arai XD4 because my Bandit lids were past it. Very happy with it even if it is a DB lid with a visor. Good at high speed and you cant beat an Arai for fit.
Gloos black with a Black visor is good stuff... $600 as a runout price is a little steep but its pretty fighter like and it has the Oz standard sticker on the back.

I never used to care but the thought of having my insurance made void by wearing a non standard lid has made me nervous

Tried mine a couple of weeks ago and not bad for the money. It was a bit firm to start with but after a couple of hours it got bigger or my head got smaller. Must be a bit of variation in the mediums.
I got mine from Perth for $149 with free postage. Works out about the same as buying and shipping from the US.
The iridium visors and clips arrived from the US so I will take a few photos when I get back to Qld next week.

Your right the cops are. Mainly because of those skull cap lids the nike bikers wear. And your also right about it voiding your insurance thats why I gave up wearing my bandit lids. As much as I hated to do it I'd rather have my bike insured in an accident.

just received my new AGV...
LOVE IT!
comfortable, light and quietish (compaired with the rayjays dakar i had before)...

i have a Carbon fibre Troy Lee helmet with a doggy sticker. which looks alright from 100 paces but don't think it would fool any copper picky enough to look...and i always feel paranoid when i were it...(the australian importer would not bring one in for me!!)
and the world standard does NOT mean anything here unfortunatly.
http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/roadsafety/motorcyclesafety/motorcyclehelmets.html
and there've got you at the statment "The rider of a motorcycle must wear an approved motorcycle helmet securely fitted and fastened on the rider’s head"
and then"Complies with Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 1698:2006 Protective Helmets For Vehicle Users, as amended by Amendment No. 1 of 28 September 2007 and Amendment No. 2 of 27 May 2009; or
Is an earlier version of Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 1698 or Australian Standard 1698-1988 that was in force at the time of manufacture or importation; and"
"Has a mark certifying compliance with an above standard."

and then
"As of October 2010, there are four JAS-ANZ accredited bodies that can certify motorcycle helmets to comply with AS/NZS 1698"
and also just noticed my new helmet standards sticker even has the helmet model on it now as well!!!! so no more swapping stickers!!!

I used to have a German made bandit copy, it looked awesome, and was around when Simpsons were really really expensive but was really noisy inside. I now wear a shoie dual sport helmet, if you take the visor off it looks really bug eyed, but I like the visor on for sunshade and it works well at shielding spray from truck wheels in the rain. I bought a helmet from lidsdirect.co.uk and it was posted here in an box the size of a bar fridge, full of polystyrene and bubble wrap. And I saved 40% on Peter Steven's shop price And being from the UK it was UK type A standard (tested to 180 Miles per hour) and ACU gold rated. Absurd that it is not OK in Aus. However, I read recently that queensland was considering following the Kiwi rule on helmet standards, meaning if it passes the Australian, or US, or UK, or German standards, then it is legal in the state of QLD. So what would happen if you drove a mile over the border into NSW? The Aus helmet standard is a farce, it is a less stringent test than the overseas tests, it adds a considerable cost which is passed on to the Australian consumer, and due to the cost of testing manufacturers only release a limited product range into Aus so it restricts our choice. Just check out the variety of all safety gear overseas and you see we get only half the range sold here.

StuntFighters
03-12-2013, 02:28 AM
This might sound like a silly question but why aint the Bandit helmets legal over in OZ? I am a a distributor of Bandit Helmets in the UK and the problem we have here is the size of the eye appature is to small, they do a Fighter and Alien 2 that is fully ECE compliant though, they just dont look as good as the XXR and Crystal.

I love my Fly helmet. Nice wide aperture and no noisier than my Shoei. If I'm riding towards the sun I can dip my chin and use the peak to block out the rays (as they are intended. Not as a "look at me, I'm a tough streetfighter" accessory!).

Helmets are a personal thing mate. The shape of your head will be the actual factor. It's all very good having a great looking helmet, but if it digs in to your head because the shape is all wrong, you'll soon wish you had something else. Craft helmets dig into my forehead and just ain't me. Arai are the same, I've got a Shoei shape head. Try some stuff on to find your brand first, then go from there.
