I may have been a bit hard on Dragracers in the past, I've always said that once you've got it off the line, your Grandma could do the rest. Well, getting it off the line proply is a fuck of a lot harder than it looks !

A Riders Briefing would probly be a worthwhile addition to the next one, a lot of people didn't have a clue about the pre stage, stage, Reaction Times, 60', etc & I got RSI of the vocal chords explaining how Dial Your Own Bracket racing works to people. I reckon Russell should be there as well because if we knew the ground rules of the venue in advance, the 'Incident' could have been avoided & we'd be smelling like roses now instead of like Large's arsecrack.

Less is more for us Novices in Bracket racing, Dave's old ZX6 Track bike was probly the most consistent bike on the day due to it having a lot less low down grunt than the B12s, Gixer 11s, Turbos & bigbores in general making it a lot less prone to wheelspin or wheelies off the line, my theory is that if the bike doesn't try to hurt you when you dump the clutch, it makes it easier to go fast. I reckon if Ash had run her ZX2 all day instead of being a big scaredy cat she could have won the comp, imagine having to wait 7 seconds after your opponent has left the line before you get the green! I reckon most mortals would red light/miss a shift/fuck up in that situation.

Heathcote is a top venue for this kind of thing, Russell (the owner) is a decent bloke with oldskool values which is very hard to find these days, all he asks is that we respect his property & facilities (which we kind of failed to do this time but we know better now) & we can do our thing, the potential for it as an AFR venue has been mentioned & I reckon it'd be perfect.

Thankyou to Deano/Si/whoever else for doing the organising of the event, it all went pretty smoothly.

Personal observations, highs/lows,

I was impressed with the effort by the interstaters to make the trip, they all seemed to be having a good time so I hope they thought it was worthwhile.

ASF is way to Kool to do the 'YAAAAY' thing for a group photo (or possibly too hungover)

Best use of the word cunt has to go to Rod's Sister.

I got to meet a member of the Royal Family.

Si is punching waaay above his weight.

The Icemobile broke!

Greg has the best toys.

Pizza tastes better when you don't hafta do a 40km round trip to get it - thanx lads.

The first beer after a hard days dragracing tastes good.

The pies at the Heathcote bakery are sensational.

Large loves the cock.

Kev loves the whoolie... and the trailer-mounted-tyre-popping-skid-at-the-end-of-the-day-trick.

Don't miss a shift or the Bandits will catch you.

Turbos are like arseholes, everyone's got one.

Extended swingarms may not be as ghey as I first thought.

"Ben/Extreme Creations can do it"

Nudieboy is a naughty boy.

Dragracing uses muscles you didn't know you had.

Daz soooo nearly lost it after the beer bong.

Because Jojo was the fastest female, does that make her a Dragqueen?

I tell you what, NOTHING beats having a couple of dozen mates, lots of loud, hairy chested motorcycles & a Racetrack for you to go nuts on & then being able to hit the piss without going anywhere, talk shit, fall down drunk & crawl off to bed without having to worry about Cops, taxis, designated drivers, what to do with the bikes, etc.

When's the next one?

for me there were many highs.
first time into the 10's
first time riding a turbo bike in anger and experiencing turbo horsepower
first time putting my turbo bike away cause it didn't feel fast and 'turbo like'
first time getting back on my turbo bike to run again only to find i was pretty much pulling the same times/mph as judge so maybe it isn't as slow as it feels.
first time beating a turbo 750 with my NA 7/11

but some of the things we need to work on for next time is the likes of the bar and canteen. what was promised to me didn't quite happen. we were ment to have canteen facility from 12.30-2 and 6.30-8.30 and bar open till late. unfortunately this didn't quite happen this way and that was a bummer.
all in all a well run event given we didn't have to do SFA on the day but have fun.

big thanks to Rod for helping organise things and si and the crew from interstate for making the effort. and thanks to Russell and the crew and HPR for allowing us to use the facility

Top weekend....consistant 11.1 on the circuit based 9......First time down the quarter too. That shit is addictive.
I think I ran a 15.3 from the camp area to tne bar only to be confronted by a small gnome in the buff doing a burn out that had Russel spitting venom over the pa that yous cunts could'nt hear.
I so wanted to beat Judge but launched the front in the air in the only run I got against Ben....then he broke it.....so he saysLOL
12 months is too long to wait.
Bugger the canteen and bar. Next time there will be more crew and it might be better to hire a local spit roast caterer and BYO grog. I'm sure we could broker a deal.

Wondering if we could put on something like that up here, there is a 1/8th mile at warwick, i am petty sure they allow camping at the track. I know there is not as many facilities but it might still be worth while looking into if there is a bit of interest.

Yea, we were talking about that. We went around the 2km dirt track on the way out in the hire car. Great track as well. He said we could use that, plus the speedway area, plus get the stage set up, in fact everything for a monster event. Would make for an unreal weekend. Only condition is it's a per bike entry fee - no exceptions. (He told me why and it does make sense). Based on that you could bring a drag bike and a dirt bike and have a full on event.

I guess we're going to be needing an official name for the event if it's going to be a regular fixture (for the one around the same date as this one - not an AFR replacement). Any ideas?

Pretty sure the only thing they don't have is a bar. Next door is Morgan Park Raceway. You could coincide it with a trackday and maybe do some laps as well. Just putting it out there for us guys up north. There is also one at Stanthorpe. They have a bar there as I've left pretty messy sometimes. Stanthorpe also has a circuit racing track.

This is off their website: http://www.warwickdragway.com/about.html

Work began on the Warwick Dragway in 1997; it was officially opened in November of 2000. The dragway was the result of the tireless efforts by a band of workers that have given 100% effort, making this arguably the best 1/8 mile strip in Australia.
We are a Club Owned and Operated drag strip located at the Morgan Park sporting complex on the outskirts of Warwick, Queensland. The complex is only a short distance from Motels and the main town centre Morgan Park is a 1,000 ha park dedicated to sporting activities. Directions to the complex can be found above.
We hope to see you all at our next meeting. Check our "What's On" page for details.
WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET

i agree Rod... i think they are just looking for some joints further north for the northerners.

DCRacing
07-12-2011, 02:16 PM
Ok so what i know of the stanthorpe track is that they are getting limited in the days that they can have there as the residential development is slowly getting closer and they complain about noise.......... I did a few track days there and we ran the 1/8th mile at lunch with the cars just cause we could.

I know the track at morgan park (circut track) is pretty much booked for the whole year already, unless you are keen for a week day event. with the owners ( Warwick district sporting car club) the president or the bloke who has built the circut up from scratch, Bill Campbell, is a very hard task master, 1 mistake no second chances and you are out forever.......... and he does enforce it, i have seen him recognize someone at an event and has canned the event until the offender was sent packing. Hard but he did make it clear on all of his warnings, he does not accept any burnouts etc etc.

so the Drag strip is a different story and i have never had much to do with them.......... but nothing is insurmountable.
What is missing in the facilities is not much, i was not sure on the canteen setup, it is out in the scrub and unless there is a horse event i think we would be right for noise. Ambos can be arranged, event insurance could be a problem, i have lost all my contacts on that sort of stuff.

DCRacing
07-12-2011, 02:26 PM

What you guys have got going has just made me think that it would be good to get to something going like you did,
can't see why one at each end of the country would hurt, if i had the time i would make it to both of them.

hey we could make it into a series and go on tour just like crusty demons thing, except with bikes that break down and nude burnouts and people getting cranky at the noise and cider(mothers milk personaly) instead of beer .............

Oh and sorry for the thread hijack.......

Speaking of thread Hi-Jack. I'll more than likely be going to a Test & Tune at Willowbank on Wed 28th Dec. I figure that there won't be that many cars as there is usually as most people will be away on Holidays. (I'm hoping) So if anyone else is interested, it'd be great to see some people from this forum - put faces to names.

And Rod - you southerners are a bit touchy;) We weren't trying to steal your event. It just looked like you guys had such a good time, the guys up this way that could'nt get down there were a bit jealous. I'd love to make it down that way one day. Just can't at the moment. Thought it would be good to get the northerners who could'nt make it down to have a bit of a bash.

Jim may have an answer for the QLD and NSW guys to get to the event with their bikes without actually riding the whole way as well.

As for Warwick and Stanthorpe, they seem like non-starters after all. Trust me, we've tried everywhere over the years and majority don't want the hassle. After losing $40k I'm not keen to take chances.
