Well for the running gear anyway!

So here the big old girl is in all her 80s knight rider glory. After a quick road trip to inverell to pick it up its finally back in my half fitted out shed.

1197 weisco stroker
40mm gsxr1100 cv carbs
tranzac 4 into 1 system

Unfortunatly i have to keep it standardish to get rego on the big bitch but that means i have time to knock up all my brackets and gather all my parts. From a quick glance it needs a new battery box, wiring loom needs tidying, whole thing needs a respray, few snapped off bolts, needs carb rubbers as currently has silicone hoses holding them on and a small dent in the subframe. So once she is regod the full spec sheet planned is:
k8 750 front end
bandit 1200 rear with 6 inch drag slots
8 inch front head light
modern switchgear
bigger oil cooler
period paint job
black powdercoat everything
drag bars
frame bracing and a few other bits and bobs.

Hoping to have it done in 6 months but nothing ever goes to plan.

lol Jarrod, it was this or a kat and couldn't find a cheapish kat, paid $1200 for this one so hoping it should come in under $3500 for some cheap fun and a good pillion bike for me and the mrs :)
Bit long in the tooth to find an efe that isn't a bag of shit with 400,000kms and the owner traded up to an ex cop bike lol

Noice.

I bought an EFE new back in the 80's and rode to the Easter races at Bathurst. By the time I got there it had no side panels in the fairing. Seems they used to tear out of the gromits at about 180. It was trying to fighter itself.

Suzuki replaced them under warranty - when I got it back from the dealer it had a tech screw through each panel

Whale: think mine had the same problem, it has screw holes through the top of the side panels into the pillion seat base, not too bad because they are hidden.
K6Thou: Pm sent mate

Its amazing how many people want one of these, got so many thumbs up from bikers on the way home with the old girl in the trailer.

Plenty of torque, good throttle response. Couldn't go too far without rego :(
Carbys need a clean, they have been rejetted to suit the pods but running a bit rich at the moment.
Only real problem was me, previous owner runs it race shift pattern so i need to swap that back, a bit of tape on the tank "remember race shift you tool" only works when you read it.

So latest update. Have taken her out a few times (private roads of course :P) and no problems with wobbles, however got a fuel problem. When on 1/4 throttle she runs fine till redline, however, if you twist the throttle all the way she bogs down as if its not getting enough fuel. So thinking it could be the tap as the carbies have been done with dynojet stage 3 kit.

Also went for a drive to see my mate at the local wreckers and come up trumps with some parts that are hard to come by in good nick
New tank with no dents or bog and complete with tank straps

Better nick tail light, grab handle and infill panel

And lastly to me no EFE looks right without all stock bodywork and the big brick gauges. So taking inspiration from BWIAN's bike i picked up a set of stock gauges which will stay original except for the speedo will be removed and changed to a digital one inside the stock cluster (will lose speedo drive when fork conversion happens) and a dyna shift light mounted on the outside

Also picked up a set of Kenma blue fat bars so i will price up risers or consider getting a billet top triple made once i get my front end

So far only spent around $500 on her so still on track for my $3500 budget but that may change as bladehunter has given me bad ideas and might look at throwing in some spoked wheels instead of gsxr tri spokes. Also decided to keep the stock swingarm as it has a koni shock and works well, going to talk to Ben soon when get a bit more cash about cutting off the stock adjusters and throwing some 6 inch slots on it and underbrace.

Don't blame me.....but you know ya wanna do it.

Actually if you're keeping the stock swinger a rear GS hub might be the go. May even get away with your existing caliper & hanger. Just did a quick check, diameters are a match within 0.5mm inner diameter and PCD seem to match.

Good buy there, EFE's one of my favourite's also. Just been looking at one in an old copy of streetfighters, gloss black and polished alloy, busa rear end, gsxr1100l USD front end and the subframe mod so all you see is the plastics from the engine cradle back.

Got to be the best fighter of ALL TIME.

Well Done

Ditch the 40mm CV carbs and get some Mikuni RS38 or RS40 on there instead it will make a huge difference. With the running gear swap the B12 arm goes in really easily, and you can easily fit the matching K series rear wheel into the B12 arm, the later K series wheel is a narrower hub than the early diamond spoke, and bearings simply swap to a 6304 to fit the 20mm spindle. The 5.5 inch 600/750 wheel fits with a little shaved from the paddles of the sprocket carrier, and the same from the outer face of the caliper hanger. The later K6 onwards fits easier. The K series front end will take either type of wheel, the earlier wheel gives a greater choice of discs, 300,310, or 320mm the later wheels are limited to 310mm discs. A mate of mine has just bought a 1230 EFE from another mate of mine and is swapping the running gear, If I didn't have so many bikes on the go I'd have had it myself and fitted K series radial running gear.

Good on yer mate. There should be more of us putting these old skool bruisers back on the road cause they're awesome. Mine's is an ET, my preferred model, but the effies are THE GSX to get big power and torque from

nice start m8:) you will need to remove the front chainguard mount on a bandit swinger to clear the frame and space out the footrest hangers , nearly finished my effy which is all black powdercoat
