xa-mont

so as the title says i failed my VIV for not having fairing.

His explanation is that it needs to be the same as it was pre-accident.

I know others have passed VIV's without fairing... anyone got hard evidence that you don't need it?

Cheers,
Trav

Vehicle Identification Varification, has nothing to do with fairings, or roadworthys. It's to ensure the bike is not made up of stolen or written off parts

I passed my stuntbike with no fairings and a drilled top clamp.. Oh, and a scraped ducktail.
Full fairing is bullshit!

Rang vic roads and they just agree with the dude. Saying everything that caused it to be writen off needs to be repaired or replaced... gay as aids!

BUT ANYWAY... i have already plastic welded up some of the broken bits i had and found other bits to buy (another $350 to spend on this shit!) and then i gotta spray the fucker (which will be a nice dodge home jobby) cause it needs to be the same colour... load of bullshit!

The issue with VIV's is that you cannot choose the shop that you have to go to, it gets assigned by Vic Roads. When I got my bike done, the chick from Vic Roads told me that the bike has to be as per manufacturers standards. Then it all depends on how the mechanic wants to interpret and whether he wants to pass u or not.

Hey trav how does he know it had a fairing to start with the previous owner might have fightered it

xa-mont
01-12-2011, 05:49 AM
cause the photo's i got from the joint i bought it had fairing... so maybe the smart thing to do would be to provide them with "before" photos of the bike without fairing...

That's bull mate
I did a stat Dec that listed my experience of building bikes and showed receipts for all replacement parts stating new standard were too expensive to replace
Guy was happy as I had a whole pile of paperwork
Bike has to be legal....ie lights muffler etc but that was it
As Iceman said its all about checking its not stolen

xa-mont

yeah the bloke i went through said he was very impressed with my paperwork and that i did a lot more than most people did, but he still pinged me for the fairing.

That isn't what he wants... he wants it to have full fairing.

Here is what the bike looked like (exactly) when i took it to him.

haha i like the way you think Trav!

mate from what is sounds like, it totally depends on who you get, every time i talk to vicroads i get different answers to the same questions...... im fuken dreading getting my rego sorted, the one that scares me is the part
about building a bike from writen off parts, i know my frame and engine both have clear titles( so i shouldent need a VIV, but will need to go to Vic Roads due to the engine not matching the frame), but the frame receipt i have is from Vic wreckers, im praying they dont pull me up on that......

xa-mont
01-12-2011, 12:01 PM
as long as the frame has a clear title it doesn't matter a fuck where it came from.

Yours should be an easy one. just get vic roads to look at the numbers (due to the engine swap as you said) RWC and that is all!

so can you just pick another examiner,,,

last week i had an eldery lady whos car got knocked back on both cv,s and rust ,after i checked, the cv,s and rust; i took it to another rego station for another check,,funny thing was it passed,,it depends on the knobb i think,,

the RTA are looking,@ the 1st inspectors, reason for why he failed the old ladies car when the cvs were perfect,,,

xa-mont

like jules said, you get assigned an inspector and you can't choose.

If i wanted another i would have to do the whole process again and i could luck out and get the same dude again... and it would cost me another $600

When I did mine many years back the inspectors had the list of damage from the insurance assessors. So, they are looking for all the damaged items on the assessors list to be repaired / replaced with receipts. Luckily I had all the fairings with the bike, so a bit of DIY plastic welding and some Super Cheap Export Gloss Black and we were good to go....

xa-mont, I think that is probably the case here although having the airbox holes in the frame exposed might be an issue for them as well.

xa-mont
01-12-2011, 12:44 PM
yeah that's pretty much the story. everything that caused it to be written off needs to be repaired.

I've done some dodgey plastic welding (it worked really well on this plastic... much better than on the gix front guard i did it on once) and i'll pick up some sand paper and plastic filler to fill it up with then blast some paint onto the sucker! He said it doesn't have to be a great job, it just has to be the same colours.

sharky
01-12-2011, 01:40 PM
He has to be a dick if he even needs it same colour.....
Nothing on vic roads website ?

xa-mont
01-12-2011, 01:44 PM
it all says "pre accident condition" so depending on how they interpret it, that is colour too

RevHead
01-12-2011, 02:38 PM
you guys cope it so hard in victoria,,

DCRacing
01-12-2011, 02:54 PM
yeah they do cop it..............but they deserve it ;)

that really sucks for the whole saga. there is no point to it all other than making someone arse about and waste money, I guess they are trying to eliminate the common sense factor that some people don't have. and we all get dragged slowly to that level.

Struck the same thing with my busa
it had a couple of owners between the accident and my rego , i had to list all the parts repaired or replaced ,needed vin numbers from donor bikes , and have receipts, including paint and bog, but he couldn't tell me what was originally damaged, i had to guess ....
Anyhow i guessed right and he was good about the repairs, damage had to be repaired, but in his words, who was he to judge the std of the repairs , most of mine repaired fine with a paint pen
