For those interested in going fast over a fair distance :D
I had a few runs at Mangalore airfield on the weekend on my 2000 R1
DLRA had a T&T and a few vehicles managed to get there .
Track is ~2100m long and we allowed 500m for stopping so there was roughly 1600m for acceleration and there was an overrun area (the end of the inuse runway if in desperate need, planes were taking off and landing well before this area).

Surface was ok but there were some raised repairs that made things a little unstable in the 45 degree crosswind coming in from the front left at 5-15 kms (guessing) only realy noticed it at top speed.
And the top i could get out of the R1 was an indicated 259kph, held this speed for a couple of secs without gaining so i figure it was tapped out. there was a radar in use Roadworks style board but that couldn't see me above 220kph.

Now this opens the door to do similar with the streetfighters..
any interest... [:p]

Sounds like fun, and probably a bit safer than do'n it on the road too.

booster: how much braking distance did you need approx?
i have a runway at my disposal (on the sly) which is 1667m long with adjoining runway either end, so i figure i can slingshot off one doing 80, give it to the blade for 1000m and then hopefully pull up, if not use the other runway (but then i get worried about hitting the taxi way lighting or the piano keys and losing it.)
from your experiance whatd'ya think

Hey Greg. Was that the runway you brought to my attention a while back? Seems like it did the job great. Can you stick up the location again for us - a map or something...

I was pulling up within 250 metres, maybe 300 if i was lazy, sitting up immediately and easing on the brake noy just grabbing a handfull.
Mangalore Vic ~1 hr north of Melbourne

The one i was thinking about earlier is more central for Vic and Nsw is Temora
they have a new runway which is ~2km very wide and have the old one still available for air traffic, they also make comment in the airport description of it being available for hire as the town is crying out for tourism.

yeah mate its pretty bad in green now,
i got charged at amberly for drinking in my room at 8pm at night on a mates birthday when the on base boozer was closed. used to be more a raafie thing but now green is getting worse
we did a couple of donuts in a abandoned paddock whilst testing 4wd in a truck and a chopper pilot complained higher up because he saw the donuts from the air. and the testing was conducted on a sunday while no one was here!
