playing around with the tail and tank combo

i am favouring the water cooled tank (blue) compared to the oil cooled tank

what do you bunch think

by the way before you pricks start stating the obvious the subby isn't finished and they are not the mounts to the frame that i will be using. and i will also remove the all thread that is holding up the tail

Definatly the blue tank, with a shorter tail.

Any thoughts on a swingarm? That one looks a bit plain I reckon.

just come in from the shed and i had the same opinion as you. looks better lined up with the bottom of the tank.

ice. swinger is a std 91 1100 arm. wanted to go with something better but i also need the length. if a braced 1100W arm turns up cheap i might grab it but no plans yet to change it. gotta build the rest of the bike yet.

large. not sure about shortening the tail up. as it is it is about 75mm shorter that the end of the tyre. i have found with my 7/11w that the shorter seat (cut about 80mm off it) is a pain when you want to move around on the seat through the twisties. i will have to fuck around with the front of the seat anyway so i will see what happens. looks better though.

yeah the water cooled tank looks better as it follows the frame, and if you could shorten the seat a bit like in your edited photo, i think you'd be on to a winner,
mabee just angle it up slightly while your at it :D

more like this.

the front mount seems a fraction to high so will drop that about 10mm and see how it looks might raise the back a little more aswell

Ok, as normal I think I'm going to disagree. I prefer the oil cooled tank for two reasons. 1: the extra ridge at the front just looks like something was missing and if you prefer it because it breaks it up, well that's when you get clever with paint later on. At leat then it looks smooth from the front rather than the rideg. (Again, just my opinion). 2: I think the tank following the frame then dictates that the seat starts around and inch past it, giving the impression that the seat is further back. I would do what I did and make extend the front edges of the seat to wrap wround to the frame, filling the gap, and giving the impression of a short tank and tucked up tail.

I also think the tail looks too low asif it's just been bent down a bit. I find it really har with the new shorter tails to get a good look. The older tail end where the plastics came to the tank made life a lot easier, but they look so bulky nowadays!

By the way, is Ice a pro?

As for the turbo, well that looks great!

this is what some other guys have done. the 2nd and 3rd pic is basically the lines that i want.

just gotta work out what he has done differently. i think he has taken some padding out of the seat and cut and shut the front of the seat aswell

That's exactly what he has done mate. He has also used the oil cooled tank.

Why not ask him yourself?:

sent him an email some time ago. the subby is a mix of gsxr and ducati as it used to have a ducati tail on it.

the subby is mounted off lugs on the inside of the frame for a clean finish.

love that bike looks top notch.

if i can get similiar lines then i would prefer the slingy tank

that last pic of your bike look good, better that having the late model tank on it. nice job so far.

oil cooled tank (black) and i think the tail has too many sharp lines for the rest of the bike. but maybe when those decals come off and it's painted it will go alright. and what Si said about the seat would work, but maybe push it forward an inch WITH the extended wrap around bits. the tail isn't too bad where it is, angle could change a bit but thats not too hard.

Rotated 10º - 15º clockwise, shaved about 20mm off the front of the tail and added a bit of billet bling as a cover plate.

I find it easier to see if its all one colour :)

i like it, all except the sharp kick in the front of the seat cowl
it'd look better with just a simple hump

i reackon the oil burner tank looks the ducks nuts
also like the ideas of the bling side panels (match the frame very well) and getting rid of the front angle in the seat cowl

a nice straight thru pipe with a slash cut n a lower seat cowl to match the lines better :D

Deffo go with the water cooled tank dude. wih the tail it depends on the look you want fighter or drag. Me i'm with the short n stumpy every time. Also depends on how big your arse is though!

nice, if u rotated the tail down just a little then the lines would be parrarel with the top of the tank (and almost colinier on the hump!)

I think the blue tank with a dump pipe would be sweet.
