Hi All,

Just writing to introduce myself, have just got a 2001 ZX6R back on the road, now called the salad bowl! :-D Getting flamed by my mates who ride sportsbikes cause we made the headlight out of a stainless steel salad bowl, actually looks good (my opinion anyway).

Was a budget build, so had to get creative with parts and fabrication.

Got her registerd the other day and haven't managed to get out for a ride yet, still got a bit to do, but nothing that won't wait till i get out and have some fun.

If anybody wants to see her happy to post some photo's.

Cheers,

Gav

ps: And for anyone doing a 02 or older ZX, and wanting to keep the stock rubber ram tubes, a mozzie cover from a rainwater tank sprayed black and fitted over the end looks good (and keeps junk outta your airbox) Has stainless mesh in it.

Hey Gav, welcome mate.
Give us some pics of the headlight. Ingenuity is always respected around here.
unelss of course it still looks like a salad bowl.

The Salad bowl in all it's glory! :-D

I wanted a retro kinda look, so went for a 7" round set up. As you can see pretty basic mounting set up, new baby (no time) and no money meant nothing fancy in the build. Actually it was really easy to do.

Hope you like it!

Here's a side pick, this was before she got finished, but it's pretty much how she is now.

Will ride her a bit and then think about paint etc. Not really happy with how the clocks and light sit so far out, but had to clear the forks and mounts. Thinking of making a small fairing, something a little like an old Duke 750 or 900 darmah, but that's just dreaming at the minute! We all gotta dream! :-)

Have a look in the tech area about how to size you pics....

I like it, its good to see people using their mind to over come a problem, i would try and get it back closer to the frame and down a little, but well done

That mesh looks a bit restrictive me thinks. Maybe see if you can find something that will allow more airflow.

Nice budget build by the way!

Its green and has a salad bowl on the front. You could have used an old dulux paint can....

Any big round tourer headlight will bolt on. Steal one if you have to. Your friends are right to flame you. Whats next a hacked up stainless steel sink for a belly pan........... forget I said that. If you got a 12 volt to 240 volt inverter and an old hair dryer and taped the dryer onto those mesh intakes you would get 50-60 more horse power. It would look horn as well.

Welcome, budgets suck. That headlight might fit better in the salad bowl with some dressing or mayonnaise.

Ha Ha ha

Nice idea on the sink!, looked at Ebay for the light, found a couple on the taiwanese sites and on some UK sites, but by the time I got them landed, they were getting up there. Most were bottom mounts or need fork mounting, so went for something different and made it myself.

I agree with the comments on the light sitting too far forward and high, if I ride it for a while and like it this was will make something up out of Aluminium plate to hold the clocks and the light on one frame, if not will get some race glass.

The ram tubes are gone now cause she was leaning out, didn't know how to fix, running the main jets at their richest setting didn't fix so took the tubes off.

The mirrors are universal enduro mirrors, cost about $20 and mounted on the bar ends with bicycle seat pole clamps, couldn't afford the fleabay aftermarket ones and the bike mirrors just aren't strong enough.

next stop paint, find out how to fix the leaning out problem, some sticky rubber and a date with the road at the back of Mt. Glorious

Thanks Guys,

Your right there money doesn't come easy. And hey the Salad Bowl is a work in progress, all the stirring is great, just makes me wanna play with the bike more and get her to look more like the Cafe racer look I want, though not going to do anything like wire wheels (wouldn't make sense handling wise), but will manufacture some new brackets and bring the light down and closer with a different clock cover.......who know maybe a cow catcher mud guard!? :-)

Nothing wrong with wire wheels handling wise.
