..the butchers dog thing is a cockney colloquialism ..it means the animal in question needs to be fit to catch the remnants of meat the butcher discards before other dogs get it ..and refers to the other slang meaning of the word fit as in "she s fit " or "hes fit"...a shortened version of "fit for purpose"... attractive ..
