Hey guys!
Just signed up. I was told by a mate who I think is a regular here that this was the place to talk street fighters. I live in Newcastle and have recently built myself an 04 R1 street fighter. I bought it damaged which I then made up some aluminium brackets to mount a GSXR1000 headlight. I wired up an Acewell speedo and threw on some Renthal Fat bars. I lowered the gearing and basically left it at that.
My plan was to have a bit of fun here and there and take the missus for a ride on the back. I thought the upright seating position would make her like it, but guess what, she hates it. Cause I lowered the gearing, of course all it wants to do is wheelie so that doesn't please her much either.
The bike is a great thing to ride and after owning many roadies, dirtbikes and a super moto, this is the best of all worlds.
But my main objective was to have a toy that could include my wife as we have three kids and do not get much of a chance to get out and about without them. So I thought I'd sign up, introduce myself and see what happens.
thanks guy!
Ash

Welcome and nice bike, I can attest to that. :D
What gearing? I'm runnning a 48 rear on mine.

I may be able to sort you out with a pair of radiator shrouds to fit that model in a month or so, if you're interested.

Thanks guys!!

I went down one on the front to a 16 tooth. Pretty good all round.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. I really like it but my missus doesn't. Would love to keep it as another toy in the shed but I can't see it getting that much use. Who knows, hey!!

Welcome aboard Ash. Yea, we know Steve, and his username here is Chong as well. Check the AFR07 video (half way down this page: http://www.streetfighters.com.au/ASF_fools-2007.asp) and you'll catch him doing a wheelie down the high street in Dubbo.

Yep, that looks like Steve. At least his missus wasn't on the back that time. I've been riding with him while she was on the back doing some pretty crazy speeds through some bends. Good fun!

cheers mate!

She can ride, she's been riding dirt bikes for quite some time. She's not a real fan of the speed. Plus since we have just had a new baby I get the "now you be careful" talk all the time. I'll always have more bikes, the longest I've kept them for is about 8 months. I really like the R1, if I had my way I'd have one of every type!

Ha, I don't know about that. I spend enough time under the bonnet or fixing something in the shed, I don't think she would encourage it. Be good though, be an excuse to fill the shed with more toys!

I use to work in Gosford, for a short period of time, At Ric Andrews. I lasted about a week till I lost my licence riding my R1 to work from Newie. But that was about 3 years ago now

I was there for about 6 months, it was a pretty good shop to work in but since I left I've been out of the game. Couldn't work 6 days a week anymore plus travel. Never got to see my kids or my wife, let alone go riding or do anything fun. Now I'm a uni bum and get to actually live my life!

Welcome m8, How has your missus taken the news that you are keeping the bike wasnt it cause she didnt want to get on the back that you were selling it! I tried to talk my mate into buying it , I think it will be a trick thing with some vision;)

Cheers mate!

The bikes gone. Sold it this morning. The guy was pretty pleased. Like you said Hueyonablade, with some work it'll be a pretty trick thing. There will always be more. I can never help myself. I've always been a Honda man with the odd Yamaha here and there but give me a blade any day!
