Anyone know any details about putting an oiler or b12 motor into the 92+ GSXR W frames?
It has been done a few times, here's one pic

I introduced myself in the intro section. Sorry I didn't realize it was the thing to do around here. Out of curiosity, care to fill me in why it has become a problem around here?

don't bother mate. all new engine mounts that involve grinding off the top rear moun and fabbing up a new one. the oil cooled motor is not quite as vertical (if that makes sence) as water cooled so the oil cooled motor needs to be rotated in the frame unless you fab and relocate new down tubes (as done in the second pic) the top pic has standard down tubes but has the motor rotated backward slightly. the down tubes make it very hard to get the bolts in the exhaust ports.

the w/c frame bikes were heaps heavier that the oil cooled so if you want my advice just stick with water cooled in water cooled or oil cooled in oil cooled frame but on a side note you can fit a watercooled motor in a oil cooled chassis very easily

Welcome Raven. The man who could give you the perfect answer has just spoken. If anyone knows about this it's Deano (watercooled 7/11 GSXR conversion owner), I'd trust his answer mate.

Thanks for the answer Deano! I was hoping it wasn't too much effort to do the swap so that I'd have more choices for engines, but it doesn't really sound like it would be worth it. I'll just wait for a 1100W engine to come along.

I am a little confused about the top rear mount, maybe I'd understand better if I got up and looked at the bike. Would that only need to be ground down and remade if you rotated the motor in the frame using the stock downtubes? Or is it either way?

i don;t like quoting other forums but this is the short answer

http://forum.oldskoolsuzuki.info/cgi-bin/Yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1188550643

and yes if you make custom down tube you should be able to leave the rear engine mounts the same and just make new mount plates

Thanks for the link! I searched that forums for hours and could not find that thread. I even searched for threads he posted and still couldn't find it, not sure what I did wrong. I found this the other day too. Down tubes removed.

wow

wonder if that frame would be strong enough with down tubes removed

you also loose 4 of the 8 engine mounts and gain the 2 on the head

Probably would lose some strength but it looks cool!
