Gday guys, seeing as the z1000 has the same engine as zx9r only bigger displacement and detuned. Would a zx9r system fit on with minimal modifying? My cans have slight scratching and i want to get rid of some un needed weight cause the stockers are supposedly really heavy...

not sure about the zx9r system but if you are hard up for cash consider taking your stock pipes to a exhaust shop - they can linnish and polish a fair amount of gravel rash out - did wonders on an old 12r pipe of mine and while they are at it you can get them to gut it and take all the weight and pointless ;) baffling out of them...

Thats not a bad idea, its illegal to modify them asin cut them down a good 6 inches or so isnt it? Cause ive heard of guys doing it and also removing all the restrictions while their at it, to produce a much better note..

Its easier to get away with it if they aren't stupidly loud and still have the manufacturers stamp on it - for a while there any after market pipe was illegal - i think they have over turned that now - the just need to pass a standing noise test 91 db and mid range RPM or something like that...

Basically its just if you get a copper on a bad day... I've had basically straight through pipes on the 12r and not had a problem... ish... I did get pulled over by the boys in blue when I did a wheelie past a bike shop in town but they were more annoyed about the noise apparently... Was all cool tho - had a chat and off with a warning.

Hey Groomey,
What year model Zed do you have?
The ZX9R exhaust does fit but only from 2001-2003.
Have a look here:
