And will it stay shiney with a little cleaning?

Yes. For a satin polish finish heat the metal in boiling water then polish using Steelo Pads (the ones with the soap in them) As the metal cools it traps some of the soap on the surface giving it a wipe clean finish as well.

Magnesium comes up beautifully when polished, much nicer than ally but it oxidises REALLY quickly & goes all dull & powdery. Best bet is to polish it & then seal it with clear.
What are you polishing that's magnesium [?]
