Hey all....

The beginnings of something a little different.

http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/upload/84345450076112.jpg

Build will be as fast as time allows, which I have a bit of.....

Plans are...

New stumpy uplift tail
Polished motor with red accents
Red Frame
Red Tank
Embelishing with alloy checkerboard
Checkerboard mini screen
Twin lights already fitted
Mini lights all around.
Bar end mirrors.
Acewell mini Dash(fitted)
Nitrous
Polished swingarm modified to accept 150 tyre(currently 130)
Red chain
Stumpy exhaust(already shown)
Pretty much lots of chrome, polished alloy and stainless.
If it isnt shiny, its red or black.

Motor currently puts out 82hp at the wheel dynoed, with the standard airbox.

With rejetting to suit the pods(shown), not sure, but will be good for a 600......

Might strap a turbo on it later.... we'll see....

Sexy motor mate. The gpx frmae looks much easier to mess with than the gpz6 frame. Thats's a pretty wild swingarm angle for a stocky, what did you do?

hmmmnz

Fuck - I really like that - cept you wouldn't need that brace - you could work it with something a bit less obtrusive.

If you dont do it mate - I will. Project #2? Nah not yet...

19-09-2007, 02:34 PM
yeah, u dont need the brace

just make the new subframe out of nice thick plate, thats how i've seen it done

still think it wants a nice pointy german tail!

themadpostie
20-09-2007, 02:46 PM
Gone a different way with the exhaust now... was using the silencer shown, but cut down the can to suit instead.... a little too much noise and flames for my liking...

Posting pics shortly of the Acewell Guage insitu, and the can fitted....

I'll drop the lights and have a gander....

As far as the seat goes, I've started the new subframe, and it wont have ANY ducktail.... just a seat. I want bare bones, no frills..... pics also to come.. probly next week, as I'm going away for a dirty weekend down the coast with the mrs....

20-09-2007, 05:20 PM
Hey all. Todays task completed.

Addition of the Acewell all in one speedo unit.

Got this one from Ben at Extreme Creations. Nice unit.

Have to add the water temp guage to the other side and I'm done... cept for lots of polishing.....

i think he was joking :D i fitted the same one to my mates slingshot :D good clocks, although the rev counter is quite jumpy.
keep us posted on the bike, it'll soon become an addiction :D

themadpostie
20-09-2007, 06:21 PM
Yeah the solution to the tacho is a direct coil connection, or getting as many turns on the lead as possible.

I had the same issue.... works just fine now....

I'll have to get used to the jokes if thats what it was..... soz if I misunderstood....

I tend to read it as it looks.... sarcasm is hard to read......

hmmmnz
20-09-2007, 06:36 PM
lol, pritty much all that comes outa these guys mouths is sarcasm :D
glad you sorted the tach, i gave up and fitted a mini analogue one :D
so that original peice of he exhaust is a silencer?? i thought it was just a cut off bit of pipe

themadpostie
20-09-2007, 07:15 PM
Yeah its a combo extension and silencer. Doesnt do an aweful lot, but does do a little. I'll have the new stumpy can finished on Sunday with a bit of luck. Going to the bike show in Brizzy on way back from coast. Should be good. Will post pics once done and dummy fitted.

themadpostie

Here's the update as promised on the new can. Running pics of what I started with and finished with. Not much room to move with a standard sized old can, but it just within the peg line, so should be right for getting off it without sparks flying....

Believe it or not, it works quite well now its packed with fibreglass. It was an OLD can, so was packed with steel wool, that had basically rusted and disintegrated over the years.... wasnt much left. That explains why it always sounded nice....

Tomorrow its time to build the new ducktail.

Decided on a name for the project..... RANCID....

What sort of ground clearance are you going to get with that can hanging that low?

hmmmnz
25-09-2007, 09:23 AM
its not really any lower than the front part of the exhaust :D
if he doesn't do any trail riding, i should be sweet :D

themadpostie
25-09-2007, 02:03 PM
YEah as I said above....its within the peg line..... even though it doesnt look it from the pic.... its within the line drawn from the edge of the tyre and the ball of the peg.

i have another idea, yep like mspaint too much :D any way
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g257/hmmmnz/gpx3.jpg
that probably wouldnt be too hard to do and looks quite cool,
when are you going to trim that front mudguard??? hmmmm
keep the pics coming

themadpostie
25-09-2007, 06:31 PM
Yeah actually have decided to go with the checkerboard theme and an upswept ducktail with flat seat. Also going to resurrect the lower fairing section as a belly pan.....

I should have the new ducktail framework finished tomorrow. Will post pics....

Front guard will also be trimmed tomorrow, and will be trying for a brass knuckles design into the leading edge. See how we go.

hi mates!
i thing the new version of hmmmnz idea is nice..
like the idea for the gas tank..
it looks very similar to
the tank of my wifes gixxer..
i used the double version of the vmax cover

http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/7107/tank4we0.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/407/gixxer10qw0.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/407/gixxer10qw0.a1e8b7a0dd.jpg (http://g.imageshack.us/g.php?h=514&i=gixxer10qw0.jpg)

http://img368.imageshack.us/img368/9900/gixxer4os1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

but i thing it would be very dangerous to drive the bike in right corners..
the can would touch the ground very fast...
its very deep, not in the middle of the bike, thats not the problem
but at the end of the can where it goes outside ...
iàm very interestet to see whats happend to the finish...
greets from germany

is that a thread jack outlaw :D tut tut :D thats a nice looking bike, although i would rather have yours :D
can't have the mrs's bike being better aye lol
i thought the vmax intakes would look good on his bike as there is the right shaped cover already in place, and would only require a wee bit of fibre work :D
but time will tell aye madpostie

26-09-2007, 04:33 PM
Yea TMP, have you considered the bike will lower with a blokes weight on it? The first bump might prove interesting. Not knocking your work just keeping you aware. My old Z used to scrape the pipe in corners when there was a bump.

This bike is going to be a real winner mate. Never seen a GPX done before and it's getting a load of attention from the guys. Good stuff.

I was thinkin that but didnt wanna insult the man.....

The can is actually quite high....

As I said before, the pics are decieving... its within the peg line... so only just outside the peg line once she's weighted up....

I will be centering the can though so it skims down the side of the suspension rocker. Wont be an issue then.

Below is the general idea and angle of the ducktail. Wont be as long though.

You'll notice I've dropped the lights too. Looks better.

But hey, I was gonna trade it or rebuild it anyways..... seemed like a waste of $150....

Car is a 1971 JKV Formula Vee. So yeah its raced in Formula Vee class.

Ducktail..... seat section.....

I'd have to disagree on the duck tail definition. Ducktails were a name given to early 70's model Z tails due to the fact they looked like duck bills:

http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/upload/43029806825590.jpg

The name gets used in strange places these days though.

27-09-2007, 04:25 PM
Yeah, but since the late 70's it has been used as a generic term for the plastic cover located behind the seat.

I just can't believe that a kiwi has never heard the term before, he must be one of those South Islanders.

nah not a Southerner, originally from Taupo, but i have lived all over nz, i prefer the south island to be honest, mainly because of the roads and the fact you can ride a whole day and see only a half dozen cars and no cops :D and im a skiier so all the best ski fields are in the south,
thats not entirely true, but the north island fields have too many people at them,

28-09-2007, 05:34 PM
Come on mate, one of the good things about the NI is the cops on the road, back in my day they road CB650's, you could bait'em then leave them for dead in the twisties, even on old H@#da 400 twins :D

And you don't get a road like the Mamaku's down south. White lining the glade section, through the traffic at Easter along that road was a blast, the sound of exhausts and screaming engines rebounding off the bush that was more like a tunnel, or going hard downhill on the Kaimai Rd, that was where the men lost the wannabes. One of'em overcooked a corner one time, before barriers, straight off the side, then straight down 600 metres into dense bush. Took days to recover the body. When I was real young family friends (twins) used to drag race logging trucks up that road, before they sealed it. At least in the NI when you stop near water you can swim in it, rather than collecting ice cubes from it.
And Taupo has great back blocks roads around it, or at least it used to, I haven't been back in 20 years. Plus a Trout fisherman's dream come true.

the Mamaku's road (thas the one between tauranga and paeroa? aye) is a pritty good road, but the haast pass or the arthurs pass is a whole lot longer mabee not as fast but puts you through its paces :D
true about the water though, not many places down south hat you can comfortably swim in, i love the ni roads but there is just too many nazi cops and too many boy racers that just can't drive well enough that want to race, taupo sill has some good roads, but with the upgrade to the racetrack there are too many knob ends coming down from dorkland and what not, taupo is becoming chaotic with a big event nearly every weekend, iron man, round the lake challange, jet sprints, ect ect, is getting too busy, i don't like people :D arses the lot of them :D
lol,

28-09-2007, 09:54 PM

keep those pics coming mr postie.
