I'm after the inlet boot off number 1 cylinder if anyone has one. I thought my 750 inlet boot would fit but no luck.

Cheers

GSX ones are clip-on both ends, GSXR are clip-on carb end, and screw-on head end , which is it ?

Really! The ones I have srew to the head, so does that mean that this is a GSXR motor then? I checked the engine numbers on the net and it told me it was a GSX 1100 motor?

They are like this....

That be a GSXR motor. They call them GSX in USA - was the website you looked at a US one??

Anyway, you would've had quite a few more hassles squeezing a GSX motor in that frame as I understand it....

I got the engine numbers from here it's an Aussie website.

The preffix for my motor is V706 so this shows up below as a GSX1100 from 1989-93....

I'm pretty sure it's a Jap import you think the numbers would be different between Aus model and Jap model?.....doubt it.

You can tell just by looking at the fins that that's a GSXR motor mate. They look totally different on the GSX:

GSXR:

If you think about it, the actual model got called the GSX1100R, so in theory they might have gotten away with calling it a GSX? Who knows?

The only sucessful transplant of a GSX motor into a GSXR frame that I have seen is Moog's. I have some photos somewhere but I have lost them. Maybe Moog can do the honours?

OK maybe I should have added the F for GSXF, I was talking about one of these......

Yea, those years the F and R were the same shape motor mate.

....and I actually found that photo of the GSX motor in the GSXR frame as done by Moog:

I was so taken aback by the fitment that I didn't think to take one of the whole bike!

Ok so I'm confused. From what I can gather the GSX1100E, GSX1100EF & GSX1100S (Katana) had a different motor to the GSXR1100 until 1988-89, so the motor above is a pre 1988 model GSX motor into a GSXR frame?

Is this right? Or am I doing my head in for nothing?
Very neat motor instal BTW!

That's right mate. Spot on. The motor in the GSXR started life in '85 in the 750, then the 1100R and F appeared with basically the same shape motor.

GS Is a two Valve Air Cooled Big Fin Moteur
GSX Is a four valve Air Cooled (Big Fin) Moteur
GSX-R Is a Four Valve Oil Cooled Small Fin Moteur
GSX-F Is a Four Valve Oil Cooled Small Fin Moteur - basically the same as the GSX-R except for cam timing/compression

The Katana (88-89) you mention might be the Seppo version of GSX-F/Teapot thingy that really wasn't worthy of the name.
