View Full Version : dodgy mechanics

I recently took my bike to Alicross in darwin.
And im bloody disgusted with their work and customer service.
I took it in to have a oil leak fixed and got it back with a water leak....
to make matters worse the lazy ripoffs wont fix their dodgy work.. and at one stage they left my bike out on the street in front of their shop while all there staff were out...
anybody thinking of getting work done at this shop should think twice as they have no respect for their customers bikes and their
mechanical skills are not up to scracth!!
save your time and money and go somewhere else!.

Good afternoon and welcome to the forum.

May I sugest that the quality of their work can only
be matched by your own introduction on this site.

Have a nice day....:D

whatever dude....
If this posting stops one person from blowing their hard earned money by taking their bike to this ripoff shop, then its worth it.
The crap work they did for me could of resulted in major damage
to my bike.

That is the reason I became a bike mechanic I was sick of crap workmanship and none existant customer service.
If your useful with spanners get yourself a workshop manual and do it yourself.

Welcome to the site dude

There seems to be a popular theme to join up when...

A... Someone wants to off-load there junk,
B... Try and pick up a bargin off a member,
C... Have a rant about their own issue's.

Normaly with very little in-put or interest in the forum,
sidestepping even the most basic of introductions.

Just my 10c.

cheers mate,
I have fixed the problem myself (i had too in the end)
I only took it there because im having trouble finding the time to work on my own bikes.
It really bugs me when these people think they can rip you off because they have this
"because we can" attitude!!!
these days (as we all know) bike shops charge top dollar for their work, so is
to much to ask for good service and work!! must be??!!

No problem. I know how you feel.
I was putting in lots of hours at work and traveling a fair
few K's each way so I paid to get some jobs done too.
Ended up with a Hayabusa rear tyre fitted back to front
and an expensive car Valet that left dead bugs and enough dirt
to write my name in. Some folk dont give a F*ck...:(

Might be worth introducing yourself / bike etc.

Cheers,

Tony.J.

shes a 99 model, got it off a fella who through it
down road, stripped it all back and redone everything that was bent, its pretty much at painting stage,
still trying to figure out which way to go with it, I was never after one of these to be honest but it was to cheap to pass up! but a new addition to the family has put a halt
on any major doings at present. I'll probaly sell it once its done (whenever that is)

Welcome aboard Appo.
Unfortunately I have to agree with you about Alicross. They rebuilt my 810 turbo engine not that long ago, and oil leaks have been the bane of the engine ever since. I was told to fix the problems myself...........needless to say he now has no chance of a recommendation from me,although prior to this experience I would have said differently.
They charge like wounded bulls, a young friend of mine spent 900ozzies getting his fuel system sorted... on a GPX250!!
Another friend [with his bike waiting in the shop for three months]spent a grand getting his valve clearances done, and ONE carby reset, and he still had to take it back.......
Good help is hard to find, in Darwin it may well be non existant,
Do it yourself mate, make your own mistakes, that way you know who to blame!!
At least, that's my present policy.

cheers Benz,
Im starting to hear around the traps that there are quite a few
unhappy alicross customers out there....
they love to take the coin off you, but dont like to do a decent job!!
doing it yourself is the way to go... well, to start with anyway!

I havent been up in DWN for 2 years now, but which shop is alicross? I dont recall which ones it was

its a little shop in mataram st, winnellie.
next to a car yard on winnellie road.
only very small.
alot of people told me that this guy who owns it
(richard cross) is the only man too see when it cames to bikes,
but ive since learnt I wouldnt let him touch my dauthers push bike!!
doesnt leave much other option really, only precision honda and NT motorcycle centre.
oh and curly at coconut grove wreckers... he seems pretty straight forward, but ive never
had any work done from there. the big problem i think is they are so busy here and have very little qualified staff that they cant keep up with it all... but my veiw is you shouldnt be out there
taking money off people if you cant provide the service they need!

jakam04
14-09-2007, 08:44 AM
Ahhh... theres the problem.... they are a Honda Dealer...

As for that wrecker... if its the one Im thinking, I had a bad experience with them in their role as Bikes Only contractors. I had a bike sent from Bris to Darwin and it got damaged pretty badly. Took me 6 months to get it back in some sort of acceptable standard after having to use the panel beater next to the wrecker (read mates rates for contractor, crap workmanship for money).

Im buying a trailer to brig my bikes up myself as at least if it gets damaged, it will be by my hands...

Jarrod

appo

Ive never had work done at the wreckers, i only go
there to get my rego inspections done each year, ive found he's
about the only dudue around who wont find something to fix just for
the hell of it...
there is a panel beater next door, so it sounds like the one you had trouble
with... thats pretty common in the wrecking industry though isnt it??
every bastard up here wants your money, they just dont want to work for it!!!

Benz
14-09-2007, 10:21 AM
In the wreckers defence, they were only the point of delivery for Bikes Only, damage during transport was out of their hands.
I've done a few rebuilds/resprays for them over the years, and I find them to be okay to deal with, but the shop has been greatly reduced, and late model parts just don't seem to exist in their stocks, unless they are accessories, you know, chains, oil, blinkers, pads etc. Occasionally they get in a '90s bike, and its raped and sold before you can blink. Don't deal with Curly, his prices are always higher......
The head mechanic is a fountain of knowledge, if you can actually get him to talk!!

appo
14-09-2007, 10:29 AM
true hey, you never see a newish bike or part in that place??!!
they often sell the odd bike out the front there that ive thought would be a good
project to take on, but their prices are off the planet!!!
we miss out on good second hand bikes for good second hand prices up here...
but thats the price we pay for smaller population i spose..

im trying to find another laverda 668 1998 model for my latest project.. if anyone
knows of one around..??. any condition really, ive got a nice one now, i need another
to chop.

That's disappointing to now hear that Alicross is doing dodgy work as well now, they used to be very good. That leaves.......no one to take your bike to!

Whatever happened to that user from Darwin who was setting up shop to sell some Euros?

jakam04
15-09-2007, 03:56 PM
Well DWN boys. Im bringing a trailer with either one (if I sell my 93 model GSXR) or both my bikes up. Being that Im getting a 3 birth trailer... I have room for one more bike... might cost you a minor fee(TBC), a damn sight cheaper than transport company lol

at the motocross on sat night I was discussing the
mechanic situation with fellow riders and heard many
dodgy stories regarding alicross and the way they seem to
leave their customers with more problems than when they took
their bike to them.....
no options left????
DIY from now on.
as for the 668, could agree more!. looks good though
i reckon, so thats going to be the styling im going for
when I get time to build my 668 cross R1 cross BWM
cross something else im still deciding??
