Tom Cruise first to own new Ducati

DUCATI fanatic Tom Cruise has taken possession of the first of the newest model to roll off the production line.

For a cool $US72,500 ($81,694) Cruise is the proud owner of the Desmosedici RR, touted as roadgoing version of a MotoGP race machine.

The superbike, boasting titanium, magnesium and carbon fibre technology has been released as a limited edition vehicle, with only 1500 of the red-and-white Moto GP racing replicas to be made.

The superbike can reach speeds of up to 322km/h.

Michael Lock, chief of Cupertino-based Ducati North America, said the Desmosedici RR "is the impossible dream - made possible''.

"We are delighted to be able to deliver the world's first production unit here in the USA to Tom Cruise, who is a well-known Ducati enthusiast,'' Mr Lock said.
