This is gonna be fun and I'm just wondering if its really gonna be worth the hassle.
[u]Good points.:D</u>
The s/arm spindle and bearing set up is the same on both. Just need 15mm off the r1 arm and
it would fit. There's even room for the bearings after its narrowed.
My new rear wheel caliper etc would fit straight in...'cos its R1 :D
Looks good
[u]Bad points.:(</u>
Weighs the same..bugger..hoped it would be lighter.
50mm longer...non-standard chain required.
Undertray would need modding but then it needs to be really...bit of a bulge spoiling the line.
Mounting the shocks..In the pics the wheel spindle centre is at the same point as with
stock arm (measured from a fixed point)
The arm is more or less in the right place going by the chain run.

So what to do.....maybe monoshocking ?? then I've got to find somewhere for battery and
how much would that cost...any rough ideas on that one Ben ?
It would be easier to keep it twin shock for the style
and a lot less aggro.....

Just had a thought.....what about one big shock
on the right hand side...a bit like the bmw's....would it work or handle like crap ??

Seen one Mono-shock arm used on a twin shock bike,
the guy turned it upside down !

Seemed a stange idea but it worked, looked like it had a
beefy Underbrace and made room for the bottom shock mounts
on top of the arm.

Just a thought...;)

(Im looking at 25mm to 400 under length for mine...:D

I have been looking at these Hagon Nitro's. They can be made to measure and with the
bit between the lower eye and the spring they would probably clear the arm.
Need some old shagged koni's or similar to try first.

One question...do you go harder or softer with more shock angle ??

sharky

Thought of that Tony, but the arms are a totally different shape on each side for chain run...:(
But then I haven't actually tried so I'll do that tomoro...

Just on twin shocks, not prolink or fullfloater etc..

Im pretty sure the more verticle a shock is the harder it is
to compress, the more you lay it down it would become softer.

The shock is no different I know, it just gives the swingarm
more leverage.

The shock has to travel less the more its lay down as apossed to
following the arc of the arm.

Is that right guys ?

EDIT: +50mm in the arm will be noticeable,
just depends what your looking for.

Just tried the arm oopside darn....as I thought
the brace is where the chain goes....
however it got me finkin..
I planned to remove the sheet metal work around the
front and replace it with a box section welded to the cross member....so......
why not remove the brace and put it on the bottom.
Its symetrical so it would fit and presto...
bottom brace, space for shock mounts and chain run.
How much difference would the extra 2" length make ? [:0]

+2" on my old GSX seemed to make it a little more stable,
but harder to throw though the twistys. I got used to it.

I'm thinkin R1 forks later (about 50mm shorter) so that would drop the front a bit to counter
the extra length in the rear [:0]

Ground clearance ? Rake ? Trail ? F/R weight balance ?
Its all getting a bit complicated for me...

Looks good mate..Wheres the battery going ?
Half of it is money & workspace.....and not wanting to be off the road toooo long. And I just prefer the twin shock look.

S/arm can be modded off the bike and fitted over a long w/e...
I might go chat up the local ali welder..he's into bike powered gokarts so he's half sensible...

I know what your saying Tony...at the end of the day I can stick the stock arm straight back in if it screws the handling etc.

I guess you call this the point of no return [:0]

So now I've just got lots of careful cleaning up to do. I'll wait 'til Brissy before
getting it welded 'cos the most technical things they do round here are bull bars and ute trays !!

The length isn't too bad, on shortest adjusment it is equal to the longest on the stock arm.
As this bike is going to (hopefully) do some proper racing (aye Oz) :D I'm pretty happy with the result. Add the R1 f/end later and we're away...been looking through back issues....got me some ideas formin.....better get those router cutters sharpened up [}:)]

Looking good [8D]

I have a little alloy welding job being done next week,
NOT the guy from Moss St, this is someone Jim at HMR
recommends, I will let you know if he's OK.
He's mobile, in Brissy, and has no prob's with alloy.

Cheers TN that'd be good.

I'm finkin about having 2 sets of shock mounts on the arm...well 2 sets of holes anyway...long'n'low set up and another to lift the back a bit for twisty riding.
As I have to make the mounts anyway its not much effort to do this.
This is a sort image....literally cut and pasted (bits of paper)...'

.
Obviously there might be a clearance problem to be sorted.

Shouldn't be a problem Jim. I'll see if the local bloke has some U section the right size first.
Stock mounts on my bike are 5mm thick u section.Leave it with me. How soon do you need 'em ?

Just a thought..Are the mounts sitting squarely on the arm or do they sit over the side a bit ?

Thats cool...If the wife can find somewhere for us to live in Brisvegas life could suddenly get very hectic.
I'm just making the most of being single for a while...beer,pizza and shed...and no whingeing :D

Heres a proper pic...measured the spindle to spindle max 80mm longer with new arm, min 40mm longer.
Also lowered the seat by 25mm. Looking at the X4 in Rapid I see he's got a crafty ride height adjuster block that fits in the shock mounts....mmmmmmmm tick tick tick..
