Hi Andy - cant help you much on either count - dont have an FZ and my electrics skills are shit. Welcome to the site tho - enjoy your stay. Post up some photos of your build when you can.

Andy....good choice of bike.... Ok mines a fzr1000, but its pretty much the same bike. i had to dump the air box to find a place for the wiring. just get the hacksaw out....

FZR'S why bother, buy a real bike, the fzr's are so lacking in power

I love my FZR250, no better commuting bike in my mind, and for a 250 its not lacking in 250 power, especially with the exup valve.

The details of what he did are in the paragraph on the gellery page mate: http://www.streetfighters.com.au/ASF_gal_yam.asp

Hey Gary, how come your FZ isn't on the gellery page mate? Check the page and then send me a photo and your details mate.
