Hey guys, I have placed the two crank halves back together with the Gasket sealant in between. My q is how much is too much squeezed out along the inside seams. Is a small line acceptable or should it be almost non existant?

If you used threebond there won't be a problem with over hang, as that stuff dries hard as.
A small line is cool.........in my book anyway

Ok so the silicone gasket stuff I have on now won't do the job then? I thought it peeled off a bit too easy. Which threebond sealant should I be using?

What sort of silicone gasket stuff?
I imagine it could do the job, but any overhang would have to be rubbed off, the more oil and heat it sees the less likelihood of it sticking, and ending up in your oil galleries.
All Jap manufacturers have their own threebond, but its all the same stuff, more or less.
Mine is Kawasaki 3Bond, about 30.00 bux from the local wreckers. It is the best stuff to seal crankcases with, in fact probably the only stuff, maybe contact adhesive would do the job, but why would you risk oil pissing out of the case seals? What a nightmare!!!

3Bond "1211" is the stuff to use. I have built an engine using 3bond for every gasket except the head and cam cover gasket no worries.

I have used Loctite Gasket eliminator for years with no probs. In fact I used to use this stuff to rebuild my 13B rotary drag motor with no O-rings at all!! Good gear.

Hi Catch, never ran a 1/4 only 1/8ths round here. I can't even remember what she did...8 something?? Nothing special, it was road reg too. She was a bridgeport, or a J-port with a 48ida. Turbo rotaries were only starting back in those days.

i like yamabond or hondabond. what ever the shop has in stock. i would wipe the case halfs with alchole before applying and a little goes a long way so no need to over do it

I use kwaka three bond now, but did a bit of work years ago in a place that worked on old triumps and nortons and they used stag brand sealant with excellant results. Its not cheap but it worked, and on old pommie bikes, thats saying something.

Yeah Sled, Stag is awesome on exhausts. Let it dry slow and it will hold forever. Smells good too.

i have used loctite grey max silicone and it works fine. have done 3 gsxr motors with this stuff

i smear it over both case faces and don't run a bead like the manual shows.

the more you put on the more is going to get squeezed out and into the cases.

i changed a sump after i built my 11 motor and there was a bit of the left over pieces caught in the oil pick up.

temp will be fine i have never had a problem with the grey max
