Have already posted a few times.

Me? I'm just a grumpy grandfather who enjoys playing with nitro and Harleys, air-cooled Kawasakis without nitro, other people's bikes... EG: Rapid Bike Magazine's 'Mr Muscle" GSX1400, and other projects that attract my attention.

Started riding before the GSX-R was thought of. Have owned Hondas (CB250, the late 60's type, CB500, CB550, CB550, CB750 (SOHC), CB900, CT110), Suzukis (T250, GSX1100, A100), Yamaha (XS650, XJ600, XV750, SR500, XT/TT500), Kawasaki (W1S, W2SS, Z750, Z750LTD, Z900, Z1000, KE175), Triumph (Thunderbird, T140), Harley (11-second Sportster, FXRS-SP). There's others but I can't think of them at this time of night.

Have road-raced (Post classic T250, TZ/RZ Yamaha, BEARS HD, and various other contraptions).

Have drag raced a multitude of different bikes including Evo Sporty, Triumph Rocket Three, Suzuki GSX1400, HD Genny Shovel, Triumph Sprint, Kawasaki Z1000/1327, and various other things.

The newest addition (and only current toy)is a 76 Z900. I have plans, oh, do I have plans.

Have already located a GSX1100 swingarm. Probably match that with spokes and suitably sized alloy rims.

Using the 'old mate' network, I'm gathering parts to convert it internally to a specification that'll make me smile. Beware of old farts on old bikes. I may be looking for a set of 38 or 40mm CV carbs off a GSX-R. Have to count the pennies and check further around the network of old mates.

I've got nothing left to prove... but I'm not about to start backing down from a race.

Have already worked out who some of the other hooligans are around here.

Have fun,

chopiesel

G'day,

Suxukifreak: When Jeff "Toughens the fuck up" he'll run it over the quarter. I ran 7.76, 7.67 and 7.30 over the eighth-mile at Bodangora Dragstrip. Closed Airstrip.

Megareg: I know Papa Smurf. Have known his bike for quite a while, too. Oh yeah, I'm on the western outskirts of the Sydney basin.

Frankenbiker: Will keep that in mind. Money's tight for the next coupla months.

ZX12argh: Never been called a PWN star before... Is that a compliment? Or are you trying to pick-up? The first; I'll accept. The second; I'll defer to someone with experience.

Welcome to the site

Just picked up the Z9.

Engine and frame numbers make it a 76 model.

Has been road raced at some stage. Oil filler plug drilled for lockwire. Sump plug still lockwired. Seat release has key in it and that's lockwired! Tacho mounted on bars. Air caps on forks. Oil cooler fittings in back of motor and rubber lines running along frame rails to front of frame. Two heads. No cams. No buckets, either. Haven't measured bore yet. Then again, haven't really had a good look at the rest. Alternator cover has been modified and has a stepped cover that definitely won't hold an alternator stator.

Can't wait to get out tomorrow morning and have a real close look at what I've got. Yeah, yeah... Pics to follow.

Let the fun begin!

EVAD: Spoked wheels for sure. GSX swingarm. Standard bodywork. Lond and low. Plenty of torque. That's about all that's definite at this stage.

well pwn ive got an old aircooled 900 too id like to go up against something thats evenly matched [theyll all come out of the wood work now ive said that] but ....
the bikes have so much in common
dohc 900air cooled in line fours
from the 70s
about the same power to weight ratio
sounds interestin

G'day Frankenbiker: Yeah, I'm tipping a rush of interest in all things air-cooled.

According to RAPID BIKES, May 2007, pg 93...

1973 Kawasaki Z1 230kg, 82hp which translates as 0.357hp/kg.

Not exactly a powerhouse when looked at like that, but that's okay, I'm planning to get the weight down and the horsepower up.
