Deano and Dave have pointed us in the direction of this Glisten product: http://www.ppc.au.com/

Has anybody actually used it for a length of time? Does it really stay true to colour or does it start to yellow (or any other colour for that matter). Does it look as though it has a layer on it, i.e. looks like it has subtle ridges like excess clear glue does when it hardens.

Does it chip like paint or leave cracks like glass when it's hit with a stone or something?

Also, it states it rock hard so if it does do any of weird stuff and you want to take it off, is it a trip to the sand blasters or what?

Loads of questions I know but I'm just really curious about this product that keeps getting mentioned.

Cheers ladies.

gibbo applied it to my wheels about 6 months ago

apparently it is as hard as a rock. so far no chips and marks from putting on the tyres. is a fair process to get right i think.

got have freshly polished and then use the cleaner and special cleaner sponge. the apply and wait for a few days for it to go hard.

i think like everything with painting its all in the preperation.

not sure if gibbo painted the bead i would say he did as the polisher didn't polish the very front lip so the wheels had to go back for the extra bit of polishing right near were the bead is.

the original wheel had paint on the bead before i stripped it off

I've used it quite a bit Gix & yes it's all in the prep. It's pretty tough stuff & it doesn't yellow at all but you need to follow the instructions perfectly. I'd say using the AP120 etch correctly is the most critical step.
I have had to repair some chips on the edge of a rim (caused by a heavy handed tyre fitter) & it's a pain to repair because being over a polished surface it aint easy to sand it back & recoat the damaged area without damaging the polished metal( this would be true for any clear though).
The down side is it takes 4 days to harden fully ( actually the longer the better)
it can have a "thick" look to it if it's applied a bit heavy although it is self leveling to some degree.
You can get some nice colours too.
