Hey guys I need a few parts and Mr Suzuki wants to chardw me the following:

Piston Ring lower - $85
Head Gasket - $80

Can anyone beat these prices for me, head gasket obviously I need new but If u can chase me down a good condiotion ring on the cheap it'd be appreciated.

While im on the topic, how much would a big bore kit cost me all up approx?

Ok just got a quote of just under $600 for the 1201 kit, would I want 13:1 or 12:1 compression? anyway, after i have the kit what else is involved, boring of the cyclinders? Whats that cost of that? Is there a link I can check out detailing this. I just figure that rather than paying a few hundred for a few rings and no performance change I may aswel fork out a few 100 extra and get some value for money. Thoughts ppl?

You're on the right track here with getting a big bore kit over replacement standard rings (too expensive). Compression ratio choice would depend on what you want the engine for (race = 13:1, street 12:1). Keep in mind a higher comp ratio will run harder/hotter, so you might want to boost oil flow as well (I think you can run a 750 oil pump to boost flow - someone else might confirm this).

You will need to get the block bored out to accept the new pistons - a decent machining shop should be able to do this (or point you in the right direction). Then (maybe) an oversized head gasket to bolt it all back together. Then re-jet your carbs.

Well nice, THe way I see it is 12:1 because it is just for street, the kit comes with the headgasket so no issue there, the last thing is just the cost of the boring. I know FA about engineering so would this be an expensive process? Carbs are gonna be rejetted anyway with the pods and new exhaust about to be chucked in place. SO I needed 3 rings and a head gasket totalling 340ish, think the big bore is the go. Will there be much of a performance difference if i go the 1201 kit?

You'll also want to get you're crank balanced (+ pistons and rods), and look at beefing up the clutch while you're at it.

Right. Signed sealed and soon to be delivered 1216 kit coming my way. Rebore time while I wait. Keep you guys posted, one nice 7/11 to be revealed soon.

Should be a bit more punch if you look for it. :)

Got your credit card ready?

How about cleaning up the head while it's off? New valve seals and a seat grind should be about 400-500ish

Also there's a few little Orings that seal the oil chambers that you should replace. Have you checked your external gaskets when you dismantled it? Also you'll prolly need the timing cover gasket.

We'll need lots of pics[8D]
