Question for all the bike builders out there

Just out of interest - Ive seen it with motorcars mainly - people get parts "chromed" which originally were not. Normally it involves sand blasting first etc etc

With aluminium parts - can you get these anodised in the same manner, can you take a plain aluminium bike part somewhere and get it colour anodised ???

thanks people

Yup, pends on the quality of the alloy tho. Some cast has silicone and certain amount of ferrous material in it. Sooo. it wont take even colour very well. Worst case is the item will disintegrate in solution. the good alloys will take colour very well. Anodising is an etch whereas plating is a buildup process.

I talked to an anodiser about some six pot calipers I got from Doktor and they weren't interested because they were cast.
They say the finish would be crap and blotchy, so i guess I'll be painting them.

thanks guys - I found a place in mortdale

thinking of getting my standard rearsets done - but suspect they might baulk at what I think is the cast material - the finish on the outward face is quite good
