Gear selector problem

Well I have finally found the slight difference between FJ's and XJR's......The gear change output shaft thingumy is longer on the XJR to clear the frame rail. I will have to look at the idea of using an xjr one on the fj motor but that can wait until I get a 1200 lump and start playing with it.
In the mean time any suggestions to extend my shaft( [:0]) by 3/4" ?????
I thought of welding 2 steel clamp bits together..

i got an email the other day about extending my shaft by 4in in 3 days. not sure how the tablets work on bikes tho.
