well seein as the bomb aimer is looking directly down and the bombs landed on the tail of the plane below most of the lower B-17 must have been in ..plane ..veiw [pardon the pun]

but then on the other hand the guy flying the fuked one mustve been flying under him as they went over their target and i thot they were supposed to be staggered ..?

I reckon you're closest to the money Rich.

Not easy to fly in formation for hundreds of miles, then link up with other formations and time your bombing run...no GPSs in the 1940s

There's graveyards in Europe full of allied airmen who died from misadventure/fuckups.

I believe the RAF had the highest per capita risk of death/injury of all the services during WWII (not sure about USAF but it can't have been much better)

all jokin aside if someone was throwin great lumps of ..hot steel up at me and some other nutter was tryin to fill me full of 7.62mm peices of lead i think i would be shittin meslef too
im pretty sure the yanks flew in box formation in their hundreds so co ordinating it wouldve been a nightmare added to that uv got 10X .50 cal machine guns in each plane attached to very nervous trigger fingers as for the RAF
