I was reading today that 8 people died at the TT last year and 224 (227?) have died competing in the last 100 years

it is very sad that many people died but they all know the risk before they leave the starting line and it is the fear and love that drives them to keep competing. going to the TT this year for the first time and experianceing it with my own eyes instead of watching it on video gave me all new appreciation to the guys that race and how big of balls they really have and showing what these bikes are really capable of doing. RIP

I heard about this when I was at the festival. It is a serious shame this has happened but it is still less deaths than 1997 when I last went and with so many more people this time it's surprising there wasn't more. I knew from last time what the chances were and it still didn't deter me. Unless you've seen this stuff in the flesh you have no idea what it's really all about. Check this clip - we are sat 2 feet from sidecars doing 130 miles an hour (Matt - yama - is the guy facing the wrong way with his camera). I would have got the bikes as well but they were travelling so fast you had to keep checking your balance on the verge with the bigger crowd that was there then: http://www.streetfighters.com.au/images/events/TT-07/MOV00824.MPG - right click this link and "save as" to your computer to watch it properly.

Riders know the risk involved in racing, especially on the IOM, one year I was there 8 died, but spectators dying is another thing, that’s real bad and good ammunition for the suits that want the race stoped forever.
