ok, after the recent spill at Queensland Raceway, im rebuilding the poor little SV (again! lol)

direction has changed a little, as ive been getting more and more interested in getting into circut racing, namely the F3 catagory. rules say, im capped to a 75rwhp limit, so dramas there with the sv making around 65?rwhp.

so this build is going to blend true streetfighter and racing bike elements. spose you could call it a modern day cafe racer of sorts?

new clip on's, some new rearsets, upgrade the brakes, and make it more crash friendly with a 1pc body work, and a alloy fuel cell under it, full rewire, upgraded suspension parts, boosting HP and torque with some cams, woodruff key, pod filters, jet ket, minor headwork, and relocation of some parts are all things im planning on throwing in the mix.

this is the only roadbike i got thats even close to being able to be riden, on the road, so going to make it a roadbike 1st and foremost, the race glass and race specific items shall be subbed in as i need em. its a compromise i know, but untill the gsx750 streetfighter is up and running, its how im doing things for a while.

so this is the start of it all...... made some stands for me to work on the bike a little easier... they arent paddock stands, rather pernement standing items..

tail was always a little out of alignment, but the recent lowside gave it a bit more of a nudge.

Good luck with the build Joe.

How do you intend to get the bike off the front stand , forklift truck ;)

Who's making the rules for the horsepower limit..

crazymofo
11-06-2007, 01:17 PM
exile... little jack under the engine ;)

gsx... most of the races held round here are run by motorcycle sportman... their F3 catagory is for 400cc I4 but the 650 twin is allowed to run but is capped at 75rwhp, it does get tested via dyno.

i could opt for a class that allows me to put either a bigger motor or build more horsepower, but im only just stating out on this racing thing, so would rather learn my craft.

cheers.joe.

gsx... checked the website, theres no mention of power figures being capped?!

i was only going on what id been told from a bloke at the track when i was there last, so you are most likely right.

i sent the forms off to join mcsm on friday, next is my MA licence.

So Joe...what are the plans for the frame???

crazymofo
03-07-2007, 04:54 PM
polish/gloss black detail.

the outer sides (the visible parts) are to be polished, and a gloss black treatment on the inside, underside and the back of the frame.

im investigating a 2pk clear over the top so i dont have to keep re-polishing, but everyone i speal to tries to steer me off the idea?! why?

tie in a gloss black engine, with polished covers, and it'll set the body color i have in mind right off ;)

cheers.joe.

What about masking and doing a clear powder coat then black powder coat?

crazymofo
04-07-2007, 05:35 PM
went and asked a powdercoater the other day about this, but they reckon, the powdercoat would come away easily without a proper primer... [:/]

seems i'll have to keep polishing :(

Hey Joe, why dont you give this a try? I think its what Deano has on his polished wheels
http://www.ppc.au.com
With this great kit you can restore a set of alloy wheels, or polish and coat all the alloy on your motorcycle, or coat any polished alloy and bright work on cars, trucks or boats. For more details see the Glisten PC product in the Topcoats section. Simply clean / remove old coatings and polish to desired lustre, remove polishing compounds, and finally clean with the two prep products included (AP 120 and Solvent). Dry then apply Glisten PC. If you wish to spray, and do not have the gear, see our handy Preval Mini Sprayers in the accessories section.

still to do the otherside of the frame and then the detail painting tho  starting to think this polishing caper is a farce  its taken me a few hrs to get to this point

also now have the rest of my body panels.... tho they ALL have to be modified by a fair extent ;)

just outta curiousity, how much was it to get a polisher to finish up the job to that lovely spec?

crazymofo
25-08-2007, 03:50 PM
i got it to pretty much mirror finish (albeit with swirl marks) before handing it to the polisher, he charged me $150 all up to bring it up to the flawless mirror finish, its shit hot, i dont want to use it now after ive blacked it out.

end result

crazymofo
25-08-2007, 04:07 PM
the exterior is still just raw alloy, dicided against coating it, i'll just live with buffing it once a week. but inside is engine enamel gloss black. figured it'd be best to use, with the heat and oil/road gunk it'll cop

initially it'll be a road/weekend bike, but looking to purchase a new bike by the end of the year.. it'll be converted over to a full race bike then

matt: leaving engine near stock... BMC race filter, stage 3 jet kit, and a 4deg woodruff key have all be installed, im making a full twin system exhaust for it, then off for a tune.. hopefully a monstrous 80rwhp shall be mine... oh feel the power lol!

the re-assembly begins..

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j70/crazymofojoe/11.jpg

installed the wiring, carbs, other odds and sods, started to modify/construct the subframe. ive had a bonus.. the standard front half of the sv650 subframe fits under the new gixer tail, so im using it and building the rest from it, doing it this way allows me to use the subframes tank mount, and battery box/undertray section, instead of fabricating all of it from scratch.

hope to have the bike actually painted in the next 2 weeks... then i can finally polish the frame and wheels right up how they are meant to be, couple of little things to do also.. theres a matching front guard that ties in with the headlight unit, and a belly pan which i am undecided about atm..

also keen to rig up a remote ignition to sit under the seat so i can piss that iggy barrell from off the frame (i got no room to put it anywhere else atm) and the final part.... some soft glow LED lights hidden around the bike. that'll round out the looks department for now.

Definitely not Aussie, like most things Cassons do, imported from somewhere in Asia, and badged with whatever they wanna call it.

A lot of the cheaper helmets are done that way. Company may be Aussie, but not the helmet.

Not to say that it's not a good helmet tho, don't know anything about it other than that...
