well i found a maifold on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HONDA-INTEGRA-TYPE-R-B18C-EXHAUST-MANIFOLD_W0QQitemZ140121182027QQihZ004QQcategoryZ3 2094QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
and was wondering if you fellas would think it would be ok to use it too chopp up and get new bends welded to it too suit my bike??

just go buy some steam pipe from the local metal centre and make one.

wouldnt there be less messing round if the colector is already done?? thats what i thought anyway!!

better off starting from scratch, it isn't hard and will look nicer

If ya think its close to what ya need, go for it, Its cheap as. A set of headers in 2.5 st steel will cost ya a fortune, Well I would charge ya a fortune anyway. Custom work in stainless aint cheap.

i personally wouldnt use stainless on turbo manifolds, some thick wall steampipe sections are the go, stainless expands and contracts a lot more then steel, during heat cycles. may look better, but wont last as long, and the steampipe keeps its heat in the tubing helping spool time.

also, if making one from scratch, dont make a collector chamber in it, the big open collector kills spool time, make the header pipes go 4-2-collector using 1/4 and 2/3 batch firing on suzuki i4.

It would cost less to just buy the bends you need, a collecter is nice but not necessary , better to keep the turbo high and not have to worry about a scavenge pump.
This for example is when i was making the headers on my racebike (not my welding at this stage)

couldn't you afford a waste gate booster? :D

What would you want one of them for ???:D

Wastegate fitting was welded into the exhaust housing, its easier than trying to squeeze it onto the header.

i was talking about the massive hole!!!

actually i had a torana with a low compressoin red motor with a t04 and no wastgate, ran good for about 2 hrs!!

bike dont really need em, I slapped one in for wank factor, and used stainless for wank factor too. Steam pipe is good stuff.I am waitin for the day I have to brace the turbo against sag :(. Thats a decent lookin snail hangin off that Bosster or is it just my eyes at 4 am ? crazy, can ya explain why heat helps spoolin ?. Heat is a killer ?.

Ahhh the unfinished bit ;)

I have used mild steel exhaust mandrell bends, over 4 yrson the gsxr 750 no cracks yet, mostly use 316 stainless, my racebike is 321stainless but it was expected to see more heat as a landspeed bike than you would normaly get . realisticly you can't accelerate for long enough on a bike to make any where near the heat a car gets.

Hot air takes up more space and its the volume that pushes the turbine wheel (as well as the noise and other factors)

doc,

keeping the header pipes hotter, keeps the exhaust gasses thinner, thus moving faster, you can then use smaller diameter headers (same size as exhaust ports) with no restriction of gas flow.

it dosnt sound like much but get all the factors right on a manifold, and spool time can be reduced by 1000+rpm, all it takes is a little more effort when cutting/designing your manifold.
