Not at the moment mate. If i fighter two bikes in a year my wife will divorce me. Besides i like like the look of the plastics on the TLS. I do think it needs some black buzz saws with anodized red disc rivets!!

I was gonna see you about a way to get rid of those alloy tabs at the rear of the swingarm. Can i do it without resorting to a grinder with a cutting wheel??

They are tacked onto the arm, and they used to hold the ridiculous pooper scooper they put on the Aussie TL's.

cheers
mate

good choice nathan i was just starting to look around at different twin and as value for $ has to play a part the tls has grabbed my attention. what sought of kms has she got and if you dont mind what rough $ did you get it for? tlr seem to be quite pricey still and sp1/2 are a touch small and i reckon the tls,sv's and firestorms would be a bit more friendly for 2 up and longer runs?
there have also been some nice tls show up of late and there are some pretty awesome bolt on accessories too??? hmmm i still dont know but yours looks the goods alrready mate well done.

Nice work Nath, it's already got some good bits on it I see (cans, hugger, eliminator, brakelines, mini indys, etc). You're gunna LOVE the TL's bottom end/midrange grunt, first thing on your list should be to either have modified or fuck the rotary door closing unit off completely & replace it with a real shock, then your new toy won't try to kill you, won't crack the frame & you'll get more than 2000 k's out of a rear tyre. :)
Heavier fork springs are another absolute must for your more generously proportioned chaps as well, definately the best value for $$ improvement you can make.
If you're gunna 'Fighter it, make sure you cover up the front of the lower frame spars somehow, they look like poo.

I paid 5 grand. The km's are high but i know the last two owners and know it has been well cared for.

If you want to take a passenger look at the SV or Firestorm. They are less hard edged and more user friendly.

Thanks TK. Yeah it has had some nice bits added already. It also has the original 97 ECU which they did a recall for along with the steering damper. It doesnt fuel absolutely perfectly but goes like a bastard without the retardation in the lower gears. I dont see what all the complaints were about, it is fine on the road with maybe the occasional stumble at part throttle. I have had carb'd bikes that ran much worse.

I plan to get a Bitubo for it when cash permits, luckily it has no sign of the mounts cracking or the dampner siezing or leaking YET.

This baby will not be fightered. I dont have the heart to rip it to bits.

The fuelling issues aren't really major, mine only "hunted" at 2800 - 3200 RPM on a constant throttle, once you get used to it, you'll avoid that area without even realising you're doing it.
LONG LIVE THE "S" [:p]

Nice ride dude. Have got a soft spot for early tl`s and yours looks cracking mate. Sound advice on the suspension, lose the steering damper and if ya reckon it still needs one get a gud un.
Very nearly bought another recently but a blandit won the toss!

i love it. I really wish i could find a dark green 97 in decent shape. Id take it in a heart beat. I think they dropped power after 97. I love the whole look of the bike and if i had one id leave it faired as well. only two things id change about your bike. the yosh sticker on the tank and the passenger grab rail.

how does it ride with those dunlops on there? I thought they had headshake problems with anything but metz tires.

Gday matt.

It has a mismatched set at the moment. The front is a pilot power and the rear is a bridgey 020, so i cant comment on the metzlers but i believe they were OEM. And TK is right, they chew through rear tyres like butter.

They are pretty close to clapped out so i want to look at putting on something a bit more long wearing. I will sacrifice some grip for longevity. I am no Casey Stoner and the super sticky hoops are probably wasted on me. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

I knew a guys who raced one in 98 and i think he was telling me about the headshake problem with the dunlops but cant remember for sure. He was wheelieing the back straight at a race track until the front wheel stoped, let the front down and threw it down the track and that was the end of it. It was black just like yours.
