Right heres the delema i got my self into.

After fitting the 7" rear wheel to the bike the tyre has finally flattened out to make the stretch over the great divide and im finding the bike a bit of a bitch to get from side to side so im wanting to know this.

If a 5 1/2" rim takes a 180

And a 6" rim takes 190

Whats the size of the rim that takes the 200 width tyres is it 6 1/2"
im a bit puzzled by it now.

Im thinking of sticking in a 200 but im still unsure if the tyre will keep a nice steep profile to it or if it will also flattern out.[V]

This is the whole problem with fit`n a fat rear on[xx(]they look unreal but they really dont wonta turn[}:)]& backed up with tyre suplir`s that only look at cruiser profiles it sucks.Thats why i still have skinny arse myself;)so i can get around the corner.Damo u are now saying"f@ck Mundy stop lecturing me"but we are at the mercy of the tyre companies:(talk to Ben[?]he may know of sumone[?]Don the "Metz" rep spoke to me when i was at fr@ser`s about the new rim sizes on the new"07`s"& he was trying to work out howmany to import[8)]supply & demand. My advice, look at metzler or tommy;)
Good luck mate:)how is St.Ives treating ya[?]I was considering that posie & i know they come around often cause after this build i may require some mental stimulation[:X]
"OK class, this is how you set the vehicle up for a wheestand powerslide exiting a corner under some sort or order & control:D

iv got a 190 on a 5.5 now, you can fit a 210 on a 6 inch rim

Mundy:No mate i resect your opinion and i do agree with it im looking
for a happy medium thats why i asked about a 200.
Dont zx12's run a 200 rear?

Chop:i ran a 190 on a 5.5 rim as well but they really dont suit becasue the side walls angle back at the rim instead of being straight from the rim .
I found running a 180 i got a heaps better result in handling and also tyre wear.

By the way Mundy i might sound ignorant but whats a "tommy"[:I]

What tyre manufactures make 200's

11-05-2007, 07:07 PM
Most maco`s make a 200 section:)the thing is the hieght of profile[8D]that`s the bit you`r after[?]Busa`s were STD with 200/& i think ZXR-12`s also.If however you were to be run`n at the track my salt wood be to look at a Michie slick[8D]very high pro, with width[8D]

I could run a cut slick on the road:D;)

Any ideas on the tyre with the highest profile[^]

I am doing the 7" rear as well.....

So what the answer is, is that you need a 200 rear tire not a 190 so the tire will not flatten out, right?

EXBEN

Michelin Doesn't do a 200 but they do a 190/55/17 Pilot power race

Yes for ideal handling a 7" rim requires a 200 tyre.

Damo my pick would probably be one of the dunlop's I've used a 218 & they seem pretty steep, I haven't seen a 200 Qualifier tho.
The Pirelli could be good too but I'd say you'd pay more for em.

Oh & Metzler do a 200/50/17 & a 210/50/17 in the ME880 but these
are more of a touring tyre. The 210 is what Stu has on the blade & it's not overly steep.

AH there plenty of 200 sections,I make mention of the slik option cause they are designed in a manner & thats to go around corners:DThey have a "triangular" profile......once taken off the straight line they enjoy there time in that mode[^] Dunlop 207rr are about the most steepest followed by the mich pilot race (on road) when u look at the sizes on a slick it will(on the rear)say 190/70-17 they are sized a diffrent way so 190 is actually closer to 200 than 190.It is the second size that tells you HOW TALL the tyre is.
I do however believe that dunlop make a 200/60-17 in the 208 but is a "radius" profile giving a more predictable cornering responce. Please dont discount the metzler "race tech"they are the replacement for the "rennsport"& come in varying compounds.not being in the bike game anymore i have no idea of stock availabillity
I make these comments in regards to the first question about "going from side to side" & hope i have not confussed the issue or set inuendo[8D]

the actual size of the tire is not exact. Metz 180vs dunlop 180 is a few mm. It would try to get my hands on and measure. Ive never seen a 200 on a 7" rim but my first guess would be a bad profile. But ben knows better then I do. 170-180 on 5.5" rim, 180-190 on 6" rim 190-200 on 6.5" rim was how I thought it went.

Hmmm - I'm not keen on the Dunlops and I'm pretty sure if you check any 12r forums they'll say the dunlops are (comparatively) shit.

When I got my 12r it still had the original tyres on (Dunlops) and fair enough they were a couple years old but they were the reason why my bike became a street fighter... I low sided in a straight line under semi-firm braking into the back of a car.

I'm assuming the rubber had gone off - tho the bike had always been garaged and only had 3000kms on the clock.

I swear by Bridgestone BT020 dual compound tire if you are going to do any kind of commuting otherwise go a the Michelin Pilots.

If you are in Brissy anytime mate I'll give you a ride ;)

i love my metzler rennsports!!!! they are super soft and dont heat cycle like a gp tire, even though they cold tear on the edge.

Hey to each their own but I've never had a problem with the dunlops yet I have crashed on bridgestones ( Im not blaming the tyres )so I guess it depends on who you talk to.
I wasn't actually saying that the dunlops were the best tyre, just that I thought they might have the most suitable profile for Damo's application.
Personally I think that Michilens would be the best tyre but I don't think they'll have a suitable size.

Make no mistake Putting a 200 on a 7" rim is NOT ideal for racetrack handling but that's not the reason you put a 7" rim on your bike.;)

Hey ben - I'm only citing what others have said and like I said my tires were old so probably not the best example of dunlops [:I]

I've gone through 3 sets of of the BT020 - two on my zrx1200 and one on the 12r - I commute a lot and do the odd mountain ride and have never had a problem - tho I dont push it uber hard they've always felt great to me.

ditto about the handling - she's a bit of a pig through corners - mainly transitions

Do they do a mitchy poilot in a 200[?]

Watto
15-05-2007, 07:09 PM
fellas not sure if this will help but I run a 6 inch rim with a 190 and have been told that if I wanted better handling I should go down to a 180 on a 6 inch rim

I realise some of the fellas take form over function which is why i've stayed with a 190 - no point in going skinnier if it doesn't bother ya

i've always been a pirelli man myself and was using diablo corsas but now just on the diablos due to the slightly cheaper cost and found them to suit me pretty well :)

damo1
15-05-2007, 07:15 PM
yeah i used to run a 190 on orig 51/2 rear on the blade but went back to a 180 for that exact reason an dprobly could have even gone back to a 170.

But now i have to come to a compromise with the 7" rim:D

my zx7r has a 6 inch rear which standard comes with a 190 but when i was racing it i ran a 180 because the handling was so much better. however that said now it is a roadie again i went back to the 190 but now i see i can sqeeze a 200 on there im getting one for sure cause theres nothing quite like like fat rubber on the arse end!!
