View Full Version : MAKbox for EFI SUZUKI's

veetwo tls

OK ive started a fresh post for these :)

the makbox takes up no room on the bike & you dont use the powercomander.
yes the makbox is like a Powercomander but nothing like a powercomander if you know what i mean.

with the power comander you leave it on the bike connected with you custom map so it tricks/fools the stock ECU. (its good but its crude especialy the PCII which have been known to give problems at times)(PCIII has just been released for TLs & TLr's...BUT...no maps yet being so new.

dont get me wrong though the PCIIIr is good for track/race use where the average streetrider would not use the PCIIIr to its full use.

the makbox is very similar to a yosh box you plug it in reprogram your ECU then disconect. BUT the makbox does more finer settings.

EXAMPLE: with my mods.

yosh box:

+5
+5
+5

makbox: with my mods.
my latest settings im doing tomorrow.

-1.5 or -2 at low speed (Just try it - if the engine will NOT rev correct at 1200rpm give it only a -1 or 0 at low speed)

TPS:
1: 5 duration
2: 2.5 duration
3: 2.5 duration
4: 2.5 duration
5: 5 duration
6: 5 duration

then you have the... teka: (the best on the market IMHO)

We're working on getting vynil labels cut so that they won't fade but other than that it's essentially the same. There may be a minor variation on the color scheme but I thinkt the yellow is going to stay.

Be sure to let me know...I've got 3 more I'd like to sell to make this bunch an even 10...
then i'll start on the next batch if enough interests.

veetwo tls, Mate, I have a 2005 Busa.

'They work on all EFI suzuki motorcycles made from 1997 to 2003...and some '04 models.'

Does this mean I miss out ?? Could you please confirm this as I'd then have to decide on the TEKA or Power Commander options in the near future.

Hmmm.... but 2 drinks later I remember that there should be no difference between a '03 Busa and a '05 Busa.
Cheers Rich

Yeah Rich Im about 95% certain there is no changes that would affect this on more or less any EFI Suzuki from post 2000.... So it should work fine with yours....but I could be wrong :D

Those things are quite crude at tunning.

Still better than nothing

The TEKA works a 100 times better (I have both) but it's 7 times more expensive.

Actually he's incorrect in the comparison. The Yosh/MakBox is slightly less adjustable but it can be used to remove and add fuel from the map...where as the Teklusion piece can only add fuel. There's a couple other quirks to the Teka that I don't like...but I can say the same for the MakBox...I prefer the makbox, and I know a number of others who've used both that share my sentiment.

It's actually you who is incorrect - A TEKA is not a Teklusion

A Teka can add and remove fuel and it can add or remove about 3 times as much as the Yosh/Mak box.

A Teka can adjust invidual cylinders for idle.

A Teka can adjust fueling for 10% , 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% throttle positions.

It can also do this in VERY fine increments.

The biggest feature of the TEKA is that it can tune LIVE .

With the engine running (riding) you adjust until you get what you want then you load it to the ECU.

It's the same concept as the Yosh/Mak box , just much better.

As I said it is MUCH more expensive though.

Still better than nothing

The TEKA works a 100 times better (I have both) but it's 7 times more expensive.

Detials at www.factorypro.com

I have a TEKA , I have a Yoshi Box (Mak box), I have a Powercommander, and I have a Motec PLM
So I get to compare them all.

Re: PM?
Sorry man...I thought the Teka and Teklusion pieces were the same...however:

Quote:
A Teka can add and remove fuel and it can add or remove about 3 times as much as the Yosh/Mak box.

This was an option when I designed the MakBox...I just didn't see the need to add or remove that much fuel. Kinda figured Yosh's max was good enough.

Quote:
A Teka can adjust invidual cylinders for idle.

So can the MakBox

Quote:
A Teka can adjust fueling for 10% , 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% throttle positions.

The MakBox adjusts the fuel curve at 17%, 33%, 50%, 67%, 83% and 100% throttle positions.

When the MakBox is revised, we're looking at adjusting from 5% increments or allowing for full range adjustabillity (that's being able to adjust to every 1% of the TPS's range).

Quote:
It can also do this in VERY fine increments.

Not sure how fine an increment...but I know the MakBox has the Yosh beat in that area.

Quote:
The biggest feature of the TEKA is that it can tune LIVE .

This is pretty badass, though...

No stress just tellin it like I see it.

I probably didn't read enough on the Mak box.

If it does as you say , it will be an awesome bit of gear for the $$

On the amount it can add/remove .... I have only tunned a couple of bikes that used more change than a Yoshi box could do with the TEKA. They were very far from standard and both ended up better off with a power commander and custom map.

The live tunning on the TEKA is very handy. But, for the price difference I'd live with a Mak.

Maybe I should get one jsut so I have one of everything LOL (Just kidding)

Good luck with it, I'll pass a link to this thread on to a few people I know will be interested.

As I stated before , I have a TEKA and a Yoshi box and a PC3usb and a Motec PLM etc and plenty of Suzuki ridin mates to try them out on.

Yes it's independant from veetwo and tls'

My email is **************

PLEASE put "MakBox", which is NOT hyphonated, and your username here on TLP/TLZ as the the subject. I'll reply confirming reciept of your address information.

Prostreet, I'll need you to send my loaner box back to me before I can ship your new one out.

MAKBOX INSTRUCTIONS:

~Tune is always going to be different per bike, so settings will vary according to riding conditions and modifications. Any specifics given in this post are generic and should not be used expecting the ideal tune for you.

~~This is a text instruction only. Visuals will be added at a later date.

~~~The MakBox is hand made and cut. Being that, it's very difficult to have perfectly aligned labels. Some "fiddling" may be in order to get a precise setting.
~~~~Duration and Cylinder selections have a blank spot at the their extremities.

Top of the box has 3 knobs: Duration, Throttle position, and Cylinder.

Facing side of the box has one knob and 3 swtiches: Slow speed tune, Pwer, and Lo/Hi.

To use the MakBox first ensure that you bike's battery is fully charged. I personally disconnect my head/taillights while writing to prevent any kind of accellerated drain. Remove the passenger seat and find the service plug (someone please correct me if that's the wrong name for the plug...) and remove the dust cap. With the bike's ignition off, plug the MakBox into the bike's wiring harness.

First thing to set is slow speed tune. First, select "Lo" (button out on the Hi/Lo switch) and then select "1F" on the switch labelled "Cylinder". Then place the knob labelled "Slow Speed Tune" to the desired setting (most applications should be around 2 on the lean side).

Once settings are in place, turn the bike's key ignition on and wait until the fuel pump stops pressurizing the system. Then, on the facing side of the MakBox, press the power button (out/off, in/on) to on, then hold the button labelled "write" down for 5 to 10 seconds. Release the write button, switch the MakBox's power button to off, then turn the bike's ignition off. Now put the Cylinder Selection on "2R" and repeat the writing proceedure.

Now to set the Throttle Position tune, place the hi/Lo selector on Hi (in). Place the Throttle Position selector on "1" and choose the appropriate duration setting. Repeat the writing process.

With everything off, now select "2" on the Throttle Position selector and again choose the appropriate duration setting. Repeat the writing process.

Continue until all 6 settings have been re-written.

TPS:

2: 5 dur
3: 7.5 dur

6: 0-0 dur

I needed to identify the "missing pin" to be sure of my plug direction, as the macbox plug doesn't fully clip into the busa .
I may be able to get a correct plug , to ensure is never incorrectly connected.
