ok so this is a totally uneducated question, but i need to replace the fork seals on my 1996 gsxr600. the right one is leaking like and incontinent old person so that definitely needs doing. the left one seems fine, but judging by the right one i'd say its probably gonna go fairly soon. the question is, should i do both at the same time AND should i even attempt to do it myself in the first place? i really don't wanna be paying someone to drop the forks out of the triple clamps and put them back in cause i reckon any monkey can do that, but the whole seals thing could prove a little complex for this monkey. can i just take the forks somewhere and get the seals & oil replaced. if i can how much would i be looking at and is it worth taking it to a specialist suspension place or just a normal bike mechanic?

It's a piece of piss mate, get yourself a workshop manual & follow the instructions. The only specialist tool you might need is a rattle gun but you could always take the forks to your local garage or bike shop to seperate them.
Always replace both seals at the same time.

fair enough. now i gotta find somewhere to get the bloody bits of rubber from. i'd go into the suzuki dealer, except theyre action in the city and last time i went in they weren't very good so i might as well go somewhere else. or ebayyy? the manual reckon i need to replace every bit of rubber in the fork, which i'm highly skeptical about. will just the offending items do?

Try Lloyd Penn at Artarmon for the seals (I'm assuming you're in Sydney)

Make sure you undo or at least loosen the cap off before removing forks from triples. It is a piece of piss. My first one took over an hour...the other one took less than five minutes.

dunno how it only took you an hour! it took me an hour to find all the tools to just drop the forks out[^]bloody messy garage. i loosened to fork caps, but only just. i read the manual and went "why the hell would i do that" then realised it would be near impossible to get them undone if they were out of the triples.[:o)]gotta find somewhere to take em now cause i dont trust meself to replace em:(

These USD ?
Bit tricky those.
Went to do the ones on my 1100, needs a special tool according to the manual (and the local suzi dealer).
If you like doing stoppies gotta check the tubes carefully for wear in the chrome and at the steering head tube.
Find a manual if ya havent already.
