i would think that with a set of custom tripples it would be sorted but am i missing something obvious?

Depends what bike they are going in to mate. See what overall length you need to replace yours as you might find yourself sitting a lot higher or lower at the front than you remember (depending on whether your using clip-ons or MX bars and risers). Check the axle diametre if it doesn't come with one to allow for the fact you might need a new axle. If it doesn't come with triple calmps you'll either have to get a set from that model or get some custom ones made up (see Ben). Also see if your calipers will mount in them. These are just things you need to take into consideration. Give us some more details and we may be able to help more - like what are they going on and what are they off of.
