Hella are hella expensive for what they offer... pardon the pun.
I'd check stu or try a german/uk site for imported stuff.

You could also try the Sachs Madass - they have projector style lights. The scooters retail for about 3k so the lights can't be that expensive as a spare part.

Ok, here is a question from a n00b when it comes to those projector type headlamps....

How many watts??
Do I need 2, i.e. 1 for hi and 1 for lo

I'm thinking about putting them in my Kat if they are low enough in watts so I can then fuel inject the Kat.

how are the housings designed? will i be able to make a bracket so they can be mounted vertical like the top pic easy enough or will they be a bitch to work with

You beat me to it Ben.... ;) I was about to say that Ben cleaned me out of most of my stock a while ago.

Deano - if you're after the twin vertical light set-up I'm putting an order in for some of these in chrome and black in the next few weeks...

The bottom one is a straight projector & the top one is the BMW-style light with the 'ring' around the outside.

Reg - you will need one for hi & 1 for lo beam unless you get one of units with 2 seperate lights and an internal shutter built in - but they are about $250-$300 each [V]

This pic will give you a better Idea. They are a two piece unit screwed together & there is 4 mounting holes around the flange. You access the globe by removing the rubber cover at the back

Ben

is that what you used with judge mate but just made your own housing?

do they have the E stamp as they will have to pass RWC?

i had a look at the sachs bike today and they are pretty much what i want. just a gloss black version of your pic, the sachs lights have the ADR bullshit around the rim of the lense, probably the same as the ones in you pic but just can't make out what it says.

Yes E stamped.
I used a Ducati 916 light in Judge cos it was all I could get at the time.
Jim I assume you mean side by side instead of stacked, if so then yes you can mount them however you want as long as they are mounted the right way up.

when you say hi OR low beam, is that one wattage per globe or do they dip to low beam?

EXBEN

One per globe. Notice how the rear section of the housing is a different shape between the two.

Yeah, the light doesn't change the flapper just moves to allow more to shine out.

Thanks Quickdraw, I will need to do some more research on them, what I'm trying to do is save power in order for me to fuel-inject my Kat, I only have 12 watts spare with the standard lighting, I need at least 60 watts for fuel injection (4 injectors and a fuel pump), with 35 watts instead of 55/60 watts for a halogen headlamp that I have now, it would be a big saving, combine that with LED indicators and stop lamps, it would be feasible, I know that 2 projector lamps might look stupid in the Kat, but I'm after function over form.

Cheers.
