I need to change my sub frame to fit the 916 ducktail, but how should I get it done?
Planning take it to someone to have it tig welded.
I was gonna have my old one cut of, tab”s welded on and a new sub frame made to suit.
But I have been told to keep the top of my subframe, have it shortened. The lower bar then moved up to meet the shortened length.

Hope ya can understand my shit explaining job[8)] – see pic.
I don’t have any leg room to spare :(so I don’t want the seat height raised.
So come on experts How should it be done ? :D:D

someone wasnt giving you dodgey advice Jo,your upper sub frame should suit your tail unit with minor adjustments, but the lower frame is too long,i wanna see a foto of you attacking it with the angle grinder.[:p]

The whole reason I cut mine of totally was that the plastics wouldn't fit my old subframe no matter what I did. Not only that, the bottom mount of the subframe seemed to low. (Oh, and also the fact that the whole subframe is steel). As it turned out after welding the new lugs on I only moved it about an inch upwards so you probably wouldn't have even noticed. You're going to make it a single seater now by the looks of things so if that is the case, the drawing you did above pretty much sums it up. Support the front section for your body weight and the rest is just to hold the plastics and tail light fittings. I'd be cutting that bottom section off and rewelding it as you have drawn as opposed to trying to stress it without removing it. Then you will probably just need to find mounting points on your new plastics and weld some kind of cross members to bolt it on to. Don't forget to get all your parts beofre you go to the welding stage as you will probably find you need to add points for the new seat also. My seat is only bolted at the back and the front sits on the rails.
