I was asked for some pics of my '04 R1. I got home from work around 11pm and took some before I started stripping it down.
I'll post pics this afternoon as my USB ports at home suck more than a H-D with a vacuum connection.
I bought my R1 in 2004 after decideing I needed another bike.
My XJR1300 (RIP, A Sigma T-Boned me and wrote off the bike while fucking my right leg rather nicely) was out of cornering clearance and my road registered Honda CR500 had recently been stolen by scum.
I was planning to buy another dirt bike, but the one I was looking at was a WR450 2-Trac and at almost $25k, it seemed over priced for a dirt bike, so I bought one of the first of the new greneration R1's to come to Australia.
It is a great bike, other than neededing new TPS sensors under warranty (an emerging common problem with the new R1's. When it dies at idle or wants to cut out, you know you hae a problem that Yamaha Oz won't aknowledge).
After 25,000km I looked at trading it, but my arse is huge, it isn't big enough to take $10+k the hit up it that a dealer was going to offer me for a trade in.
That left me with the options of trading (and take the above mentioned hit up the arse), turning it into a track bitch, or Street Fightering the SOB.
I took the Street Fighter option...
So I got home from work, cracked the bottle of Jim Beam and set to work.
I took pics, but you guys can wait for them as my home computer sucks for USB ports.
After removing the fairings I was surprised at how much better it looked.
With a little work and a few $$$ it should be a great bike to ride.
With clip ons and a 6'4" frame, it felt too cramped.
I can see it being a LOAD of fun now though.
As mentioned, stay tuned for pics and the build up into a 'Fighter.

Cheers,
Lee

Now, some pics.

To begin with, hee is my R1 fully faired. These are the last pics of it with clothes on taken.

I got home from work the other night about 11pm and decided it was time to strip the R1 down to see what we have and what needs moving or modifying.

The important thing when working on any motorcyle is to have the right tools for such a job.

By midnight I had the R1 looking like this:

That leaves me with things to do like moving the fuse box from the radiator. It will probably go under the seat.

I will also need to tidy up the looks by hiding other wiring and make the radiator hoses look a little better. Note the coolant leak.

So, as you can see, lots of fun to come yet...
