View Full Version : A truely hypothetical question

If someone had some money to spend on a bike.... lets say around $8000 and was looking to buy a standard bike and convert it to a streetfighter. What would be a good bike (im talking about late model big bore sports bikes) to start with? There seems to be a few 98/99 R1s around for 6/7/8k some with 30000 km, also a couple of damaged ZX12Rs for 7/8k, plenty of CBR900s from 5k and a few TL/TLRs from 7k, lots of VTRs fron 6k and quiet a few ZX9s from 6k. All of these are watercooled and im wondering if any of these would look good naked? Also the grunt and wheelie factor needs to be considered. I just thought id post this to help anyone who was considering fightering a late model sportsbike. :D

hypothetically if my name was Ozkat, I'd know that a Honda was not an option so I'd buy a damaged GSXR 1000 or the silver zx12r

Hypotheticlly the GSXR1000 is very hard to find within the said price range. Although i think it would be an ideal choice. The ZX12R is actually hypothetically the green ebay version. Hypothetically the R1 is running a very close 2nd and closing. I hope this helps any newbies who are looking to buy a late model bike. ;)

i want to say the TL,
but secretly i want to be the only one....

a TLs that price shouldnt be too hard to come by, but i think the TLR would need to have 50 000+k's to be that cheap?

But after a quick think and another quick Rye Whiskey I can make sense of the whole hypothetical question, go the GSX1400. The Mother-ship has so much potential.... surely you could bargain someone down to around 8g's

what about a zrx1100/1200 already stripped so you could spend more on the engine, with very little fettling you can get well over 100flb of torque out of these things and that just spells FUN

Hey Oz,

This is God.

This is my command - find another $3K and came and talk to me about a YB-11 Bimota which already has big bore kit, carbon race pipe etc.

is Oz allowed to remain on the site if he buys a violin?

I think this deserves some very serious consideration..............over a dozen beers or so :)

The 1998 Yam RI is supposedly the most powerful of the earlier Yaamahaha models, gets my vote as the most for the least$$, most desirable is the GSXR1000 K2, but I don't think they are in the hypothetical price range...yet...:)

I would ask myself what do I expect the bike to be (eg. which engine configuration is preffered. Would it be a everyday riding bike ect.) and than make a decision.
Regardless what it might look like when it's finished. To me, that comes later. Even a seemingly unattractive bike can look trick, with a bit of imagination......Hypotheticlly.

all the above R1?Gixthou r good but not much change from 8k and most flogged to death.

Something different ive always considered which you would able to do a bit to (around 96 model - 4-6k)- You may think im on crack, but here goes:

RF900 - metal freaky/sculptured/cool frame the thing has better bottom end than the R1's (yes) and still a peaky HP bastard. STILL (or until recently) HOLDS THE WORLD 24Hr ENDURANCE RECORD. and its a suzuki. Chadams had one and it really fanged - and he got booked doing an approximated 300KM/h at Goulburn so it is a fast one.

Check the frame out - and its metal - but looks great. Only downside is the rear end - you hate it or live withit I suppose.

the version as I recall of the story on the rf900 at the 24 hour is a beuty.Suzuki didn`t have any other bike that could qualify gixer 750-too small, 1100-100cc`s over limit.so they(Suzuki) took the rf and the rest is history.

Don't laugh too hard fellas, a mate of mine is talking about doing exactly that, Postie bike with NSR 150 running gear - engine, single sider & front end, but keeping the postie bodywork.
Here's the embarrasing bit - Í'M ENCOURAGING HIM [:0] (I even told him it would qualify as a Streetfighter) [}:)][B)];)[:o)]
I read a story a while back about a Sydney based Postie bike club (yes, the weirdos even have a club!) who organised a RACE from Syd. to the GP at the Island, they apparently raced flat out the whole way & never broke the speed limit :D
