gday all.

thought we could have just the one thread for pics and comments on the fools run just gone, so those of you have pics/comments please use this thread.

i had a ball myself, this forum/club has a great bunch of blokes and ladies in it, was great to talk shit with you all, bring on the next event!

thanks must go to (GIX11)for getting the ball rolling and setting all this up, (DAVO) for organising the accomodation. and i must thank robbie williams for allowing an extra 120kg worth of luggage to be stored in his car (me and my gear).

those of whom who missed out... you did just that.. you missed out on a barrell of laughs, lots of brews, and a bag of fun.

my only downside... not being able to ride the nymboida/dorrigo strecthes

cheers.joe.

PS.. i have a shed load of pics, i'll add them up once i resize them all from the 2568x1274 sizing them have now. anyone that wants the full size pic, just email me and i'll shoot them back at ya.

How's it going girls?

Got in the door an hour and a half ago. Saw the Vic guys (Ice, Foxy, Deano, Turbo, ??? (Fuck, shouldn't have had cones so fast, already forgetting names again :D )) through CBR and off on their way to the Snowies. We stayed in Liverpool last night with Su and Gibbo, had a few drinks etc etc. Turbo picked up his Turbo this morning, so now he feels a complete man :). I'm gonna be getting some new riding gear too, cos those fingerless gloves were getting farkin cold the closer I got to CBR :).

Had a fucken top time, best in years. And good to see the MIGHTY GPz9 got a pic up above Crazy, although she wasn't a well bike coming into CBR, lot's of tappet rattle, and a dry coolant reservoir. I'll have a look in the next day or so, but she was still running fine and not overheating, so probably just a couple of tappets worked loose. This motor goes too hard to have to replace it.

I'll post some photos shortly. Might have to arrange something for a couple of short vids I got.

whats peoples opinion of the best bit of road?

i recon the bit from where we meet mundy, and rexie to dorrigo

03-04-2006, 05:38 PM
Now come on!!!!!!!! 'old bloke old bike' collectively our ages only add up to 64, not yet retirement age guys........just. :)

I reckon th 2nd half of the Putty was dmaned good as well, mainly cos I got to play on the road with Ross and Turbo. The run up Thunderbolt Way was right up there.

03-04-2006, 05:42 PM
And what about distances?
I got 2000 k's up over the weekend.
The Victorians, especially GSXAR and Ross, will have some strong figures.

best stretch was ebor to dorrigo just that last bit into dorrigo was worth the ride. and how did you like the buladelah range damo?

I heard about your nuts and that bump Large. Not a winning combination huh?

Not my nuts...My GUTS and the tank made intimate and hard contact and both hands went numb for a while.

Last night I was sitting back thinking how lucky I was as it was only a few k back that I'd passed Chalk (for the only time all weekend) and the guy on the silver VFR (Shayne?) on the naughty side of 200....could have been fucking nasty

Hey Damo. That's what your paint does to cameras when the sun catches it. I have a shot the same. It looks like the tank is yellow and the tail orange. Serious paint work mate.

Yea, we left Byron Bay (well, Terry's place actually) this morning feeling a touch worse for wear. Davo still managed to come up with another one of his tail end mods for the ride home though:

still it would be nice to say i did all of the work on the bike.

Yeah but its only going to be a base for your airbrushing
so the guy putting on the clear should do a top job hopfully
and make the job, you cant fuck up the base just take your time
leave about 15mins in between coats and if you miss a bit in the
coat your doing get it in the next one and only put enough on so its
all covered dont just keep piling it on and if it looks dry in some spots
the clear will fix it.
the clear is the same process (trick of the trade dont put any reducer in the clear
it gives a heaps deeper finish)just clear and hardener if you need any advice dont hesitate
to ask mate

Not guilty Gix, I haven't thrown up since I was a kid & not from lack of trying either, I seem to have a one way throat valve happening. Also, if I was able to do it in the first place, I have a concience & would've cleaned it up.
I AM however, guilty of sneaking off to the sack like you said, but I'm blaming you for forcing that spliff on me against my will ;) & the Pub for holding me down & pouring all that beer into me [xx(]

I didn't hear any of it. Just the look on his face when he stopped and said "this is really good shit - what was I on about again" was the highlight. I don't think anybody heard it. The laughing came from that bit. So the puke was from a local, yet we were the only ones staying there? That's quite weird. Someone's keeping quiet aren't they? Still can't believe the Landlord gave us the keys to room 12 to play with, and even more mad is the fact that Damo didn't hear shit, even though we locked Kye in your room for 10 minutes with him banging, kicking and scratching at the door trying to get out, or were you the reason he was doing that Damo?

I finally got some time to do a Fools Run wrapup from a Mexicans point of view if anybody's interested.
Firstly, I have to say, that was the best motorcycling related event I've ever done & that's really saying something, easy going crew, twisty roads, pacey riding, beautiful scenery, cold beer, no (major) mishaps, no (major) police attention & a really good vibe allround at Macksville.

Vic. participants were;
TurboKat - '95 ZXR 7/9
Foxy - '05 Z 1000
Deano - '93 GSXR 7/11
Shano - '88 GSXR 750
GSXAR - '89? GSXR 1100
Ross (Jo's partner) - 'Busa
Shane (Deano's mate) - VFR 800
Darryl (as above) - VFR 800 Vtec
Gibbo & the lovely Sue - Falcon wagon
Doc (Jo's mate) - Landcruiser (with SatNav!)
Iceman - '91? GS 500 ???!!!???
Leaving from Lilydale on a sunny Wed morn. went off without a hitch, Black Spur was a bit dampish but not dangerous, I was wobbling all over the place having finished the mighty Kwaka the night before at about 2am & not having ridden it further that the end of my street, it was taking a bit to get used to the high bars.
Over the Spur & onto Alexandra & Jo's bloke Ross ('Busa) sets the pecking order early by wheelieing past the lot of us at about 160.
It turned out to be a real bonus to have Ross along with us, none of us had ridden half the roads we were about to take & he'd done them a million times so he became the unofficial ride leader & didn't get us lost once! Onya Rossco.
Rode some fantastic roads, Great Alpine Rd from Ovens to Bright, Tawonga Gap, Murray Valley Hwy through Granya Gap to Corryong where we camped the night. Approx 600 km.
The rest of day 1 had no incidents to speak of apart from Foxy & Iceman playing messagebank tennis, Ice was s'posed to meet us at Oxley but started second guessing himself when we were late, he would go to the next town, call Foxy who was riding at the time, leave a message, go to the next town, listen to the message that Foxy had just left after receiving his last message, etc, etc, I think that incident was sowing the seed for what would culminate in him receiving the coveted "Biggest Tool" award at Macksville.
We all got kicked out of the pub at closing time.

Day 2 (Thurs) dawned fine & mild & we left Corryong about 10am for the much anticipated run to Khancoban & over the Snowies via the Alpine way, the first 1/3 of the 75km of the Snowies Rd was damp but extremely grippy so the pace was still pretty good considering the tight nature of the corners, stopped at one of the BIG hydro stations for a look & a break, we all would have liked to do the touristy thing but we had an appointment with a BBQ & beer at Chalky's in Cam Berra.
The second 2/3 of the Snowy Rd was pure motorcycling nirvana, clean/dry road, really grippy, constant radius corners, hardly any cars, no suicidal Skippys, Ross setting a fast but safe pace & me getting used to the Kwaka & just able to keep up, I'll be doing that road again fur shur.
Fast sweepery type country from Jindabyne through Berridale to Cooma, averaging 140 & no traffic to speak of made this section seem shorter than it was.
Next was a "transport section" in fine drizzle up the Monaro Hwy to CBR, Doc's super handy GPS/SatNav taking us direct to Chalkys door for much needed food & beer. (Big thanks must go to the Chalkmeister for organising the BBQ & putting the piss on - Cheers mate.) After a couple of hrs at Chalksville shooting the shit & watching the drizzle become showers & then rain, we headed off to Goulburn for the night, the Federal Hwy is the most boring stretch of road in the world & in hindsight, we were lucky that it was the only section that we had to ride in the rain. It was also the only time I was jealous of Gibbo & Doc in their nice warm cages. Lowlight of day 2 being the shithouse food at the motel restaurant.
Kicked out of the pub at closing time.

Day 3 (Fri.) awoke to suspect skies & had all of us worried, the first section was a transporter up the inHUMEane Hwy with nobody prepared to push the speed limit, it was a blessing from Mick (Doohan = God) that a citizen in a family truckster decided to be our pace car & got us to Picton at an average of about 125 km/h - very considerate, these NSW drivers.
Lunch in Picton, a very helpful Tourist Information Centre woman giving us free maps, marking out the best roads for us & even telling us there were no cops in the area - Gold !
Picton to Penrith was uneventful, pretty shitty roads (bumpy, roadworks) with few highlights. Stopped at Western M/C in Penrith for half an hour, the highlight there being the collection of old to new racebikes up on the mezzanine level.
Penrith to Richmond/Windsor was a doddle, the massive Hercules aircraft doing flyovers around the RAAF base was a welcome distraction. The amount of police cars in the area was not.
Onto the Putty Rd & Ross has the big 'Busa wound up & is setting a cracking pace with me now well & truly in the groove & sitting close behind, a top ride spoiled only by a couple of dickheads in 4x4s who didn't like being passed at warp 7. Deano & Shano had the battle of the GSXRs going full tilt with each taking turns at leading, both turned up at the Halfway Roadhouse wearing full width shit eating grins. Met up with Chalky at the Halfway & had a 1/2 hr lunch break during which, I was checking out Chalk's GPZ 900 & the questionable engineering in the top clamp/riser conversion & also noticing his riding gear - Brando jacket, leather jeans, (Fimp would later liken him to Peter Andre - & I can see the resemblence!) headkicker boots & fingerless gloves, I made a mental note to myself something along the lines of "this guy's a cruiser, he'll be no threat" - how wrong I was about to be !
Leaving the Halfwayhouse, Rossco & I settled back into a pretty fast pace, linking the corners together into a nice flow & constantly upping the pace as we went, after about 10 mins of this, The Chalkster appears around the outside of me on a left hander & slots himself in between me & Ross, my initial reaction was, what the? how could? etc, followed immediately by "cheeky prick, I'll teach you!" So I passed him back for the next bend only to have him pass me back for the next one & get all loose under brakes. I remember thinking "if he wants second place that bad, he can have it" What followed was one of the best fangs I've had for ages, for all of the second half of the Putty, the 3 of us were nose to tail, hooking in hard & having a ball, Chalky nearly taking out the front of a Semi Trailer on one bend & making me run wide to avoid his flailing rear wheel on another, make no mistake, this bloke is a hard charger & well worthy of Damo's award - nobody should be able to punt an old Geep 9 that fast.
Anyway, Singleton to Newcastle was another uneventful section, we stopped in at a carwash at Newy to wash the roadworks mud off the bikes & Fimp came & met us there & took us back to his place for the night. Bikes were repaired, Fimp's Kat was drooled over, concerns were voiced about the big crack in his TLRs headstock, beer was drunk, snags were eaten, lies were told & a good time was had by all. Thanks also must go to Fimp for putting a BBQ & beers on & for putting some of us up for the night & also to Iceman who cooked the barbie solo while we all partied - Cheers guys.

Day 4 (Sat.) We all regrouped at Casa Del Fimp at 7am or somethin like that for the run out to the BP to meet the NSW crew, Fimp decided to replace the clutch lever at the 11th hour & unfortunately had "complications" with the job which had us about 20 mins late to the meet point, when we rolled up, the NSW crew were mounted up & on their way out thinking we'd gone to another meet point. All was sorted & we all fuelled up & departed for Bucketts Way to Walcha to hook up with Mundy & Rexie.
Out of the servo & onto the highway, I was in a group with Exben, Chadams, Damo, Quickdraw & Speeddemon, my first thought was "Geez, these Walers aren't afraid of the throttle" straight up to 140, in & out of traffic, no mercy being shown, top fun.
Bucketts & Thunderbolts Ways were a bit of a letdown for me, being too open for the most part, pretty bumpy & not enough sets of decent corners to keep interested, excellent views though.
My first impressions of the NSW guys was confirmed when we got into the long straight sections of Thunderbolts, same group of guys, all chin on the tank, tucked right in, throttles wide open, I (just) passed Chad at 210 & was (just) pulling Damo in when we started to run out of road, what a hoot, this exercise was repeated several times on Thunderbolts & I never got sick of it!
Met Rexie & Mundy in Walcha, stopped for lunch & played with a hungry Staffy who'd picked us all as soft targets & proceded to relieve us of bits of our lunch. Everyone oohed & aahed about Mundy's swoopy new Micron can. The Walcha - Dorrigo road was fucking awesome & I managed to catch Mundy & we had a good play for the last 20 or so Ks into Dorrigo.
Leaving Dorrigo for Macksville a bit late, I was a bit back in the pack so had to pedal pretty hard to get up the front (Deano had previously told me that Davo was fast so I was on a mission to catch him & see for myself!) The road through the Dorrigo National Park (I think) is a thing of beauty, billiard table smooth, corner after corner, lots of downhill & good grip. Towards the end of that road, I'd managed to get past just about everyone but hadn't seen Dave, I finally spied him through the trees a few corners ahead so put my head down & arse up when what should happen but that fucking Chalky sticks his front wheel up the inside to let me know he's keen. So it's on for young & old & we both manage to catch Dave up & the 3 of us had a "spirited" ride into Macksville - really good fun!
Everyone knows what happened from then on so I'll wrap it up for now.
Thanx to;
Simon (Gix11) - for the whole idea.
Dave (Davo) - for organising the accomodation.
Shayne (OzKat) - for organising the other stuff.
Anybody else who helped out with getting the whole thing together. (Ben?, Stu?)
Alan (Gibbo) & Sue - for carting all our gear around the countryside so we could ride light bikes & for taking my shiny new Turbo system home for me.
Conrad (Fimp) - for the food, beer & bed & the tyre to get me home.
Mr Kawasaki - for one of the best engines & tightest chassis ever made.

All in all, a fantastic week of good riding, good roads, good company & good times, I'll be at the next Fools Run guaranteed ('specially coz It'll be closer to Victoria nextime!)

See yous at Straightliners.

TurboKat
(Darren)

P.S. High/Low lights of the ride home;

Getting booked for passing a cop car (unmarked) on the Pacific Hwy when I JUST pulled back in over double lines (I'm talking about 10 fucking feet of double lines - talk about a technicality!)

Large leading us into Sydney on the highway in the dark, through big traffic, at high speed.

Having to change my rear tyre in the Bowling club car park at Port Macquarie using Gibbo's Ford Falcon bead breaker.

The Amazing Exploding Harley Davidson Headlight Incident - we parked in a servo, standing around talking shit for 5 mins when we hear a crack like a rifle shot, turn around to see a shower of glass falling all over the front of my bike - nothing within 20 feet of the bike - real X Files stuff. That's what happens when you put a headlight designed for a shitheap on a high performance motorcycle.
