Hey guys/gals and fimps,
Decided recently that Id start doing some work towards the arse end swap from my standard body work to a nice sleek option. The plan was to remove my rear subframe to allow correct measurements to make a bracket to attach new subframe. Unfortunately, things never go to plan...
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e161/jakam04/My%20Fighter/DCP_3104.jpg
Bye bye old crusty body work...
While I was trying to take off the two bolts on the left side holding the old subframe, they decided to resist and strip out. After trying to use the easy-out (which made things worse), I ended up drilling out the bolt and snapping off the heads. Unfortunately, there are always casualties of war....
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e161/jakam04/My%20Fighter/Image085.jpg
Now with no way of attaching the old subframe any easier than attaching new one... I decided that now was as good a time as any to move forward with completing the arse end transplant.
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e161/jakam04/My%20Fighter/DCP_3105.jpg
Almost got the attaching plates done now, but just got a few pics below that give an idea what the beast might look like lol..

Nice choice of tail Jarrod, I do however agree with CC. Can you bring the tip in line with the tyre? Just an idea, you can tell me to get fucked if you want.

Not sure at moment, will wait till i got all parts lol and then see what I can do. Worse case scenario, I might have to lift it up as high as Lukkie rikkie has... will see how I go.
Thanks for the comments and encouragement.

i would chuck the tank on aswell mate cause you gotta get the lines right with the tank. from your pics i would sta lift at the front lower on the tip and shorten the gap between the start of the plastic and the frame, this will shorten the overhang.
good luck

jakam04

I wont be putting the stock or equivalent pipes under the seat quite yet... cant quite afford it at the moment. Was thinking of putting a pipe similar to the "degenerate", but having fun trying to find a set of 4-1 headers for the right price... Did have one option passed on, but the guys at Micron dont make my model pipes anymore... bugger

Hey Jarrod you still want the pair of new micron race cans I have reserved for you or will your bike be requiring something different now it's been changed.
No worries if ya dont want or need them anymore as others have expressed an interest in them. Doktor or Doctor ? I think is next inline.
I cant wait to get started on my bike when I get there.
Come on house sale fuggin hurry up and complete.

Still need them at this stage mate. Might have to still use them for a while till I get a enough money for the new headers. Gonna have an extended bracket similar to what deano had for his pipe but on both sides...

i like the tail as well but we need a full side pic with the whole bike and pipes to really tell. I personally dont like tails that go past the wheel but thats thin enough at the back it might be alright, only time will tell:) great work though!
well good to see ya got inspired at the AFR mate.Forget the 4-1.your bike is running 4-2-1-2 system standard.its a fuckin highly tuned system that is restricted thru the cans.you need to cut it at the collection point before it splits back into 2, and have a single collector pipe built to suit a single aftermarket can($100 approx).I havn't tried this, but was advised to take this root by an exhaust expert (Dennis Foran).
Looks tits mate,i'm impressed.

Thanks Davo, glad you like. Slight problem with the exhaust info. Mine has 4-2-2 as the pipes dont go into a 4-2-1-2. Attached below is a pic of my system.

Hey guys and gals.
Here are a few more recent pics of the work ive been doing on the GSXR.
I finally got my undertail and front seat so I started by painting the ducktail and undertail ASF black..
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e161/jakam04/My%20Fighter/Bikemods17-5-075.jpg
When taking the old subframe off, I was left with considerable wiring to find a new home in my new subframe.
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e161/jakam04/My%20Fighter/Bikemods17-5-072.jpg
Here are a few pics of the tail attached to my bike ( not completely finished as you can see plugs and hoses hanging around.

Yeah, im pretty happy with how things have turned out so far. Just a few minor things to do so I can get it rideable.
1. Cover rear seat hole with either a cowl or fibreglass over it.
2. Find or make a hugger
3. make a mini screen for above lights and speedo.
4. make or find a cheap fender eliminator.
5. find a smaller replacement water reservoir to fit into new subframe.
Hanging out big time to go for a ride... getting DT's

As you can see below, the new paint job on the tank has worked a treat.
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e161/jakam04/IMG_0662.jpg
Not sure if you can see it, but I got a new top yoke for the bike being an ABM yoke from Stu (thanks again mate). Mounted the old speedo bracket onto the new yoke but mounted it below yoke instead of on top like last time.
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e161/jakam04/IMG_0661.jpg
Got myself a 4-1 system finally. Ive also attached those blue side covers on, just have to attach the rocker cover onto finish the look.
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e161/jakam04/IMG_0664.jpg
1. Put twin Pods on.
2. Attach replacement radiator reservoir.
3. New Jets for carbs to match exhaust and pods.
4. Find rear seat cowel.
5. Powdercoat wheels black.
6. .... as things come to mind.

dont go expexting much more than what you have already.
looks like the main is about the right size going by the lambda reading, so best you can hope for is picking up a little in the mid range.

The bike is looking good!
as for your jetting, looking at the AF numbers it looks like the bike is really good around 5k rpm but the rest of the time is really rich or heading that way. Id say a larger air correction jet, needle up a clip and drill your slide to make it raise faster, or weaker spring. For the amount of fuel thats dumping in there you could be sucking in some more air.
good luck with it.

Just been to my mechanic and it seems that the mongrel is going to need 170 size jets as those pods are allowing shit loads of air in lol... To get it running to allow me to take it to the show, they just drilled out a set of jets to see what it needs and arranged to order proper jets which arrive tomorrow.
Heres to hoping that it helps that HP figure...

170 mains are not needed.
150 maxium. my road bike runs 150 and is rich and the track bike is running 145.
have you used a jet kit at all?

Mate,
Im a dumb arse when it comes to technical stuff like needles, jets etc. I have left it in the hands of my local mechanic. They are the ones in the know compared to me so I have put my faith in them. If things fuck up in a big way then I move to the next one.
I gave my bike to them with pods and they have been playing with the tuning on and off the dyno machine. I was told today that they had ordered the 170 jets.
Are you running pods deano? the mechanic was saying the pods I got suck a shit load of air in so that was the reason he went so big in jets.

Hey Jarrod, I've got a fac pro kit here with 140, 147.5 and 150. lemmme know if it'll help.
I'm using around 135.

i have the exact same as you mate. pods on both my 1100w's. the track bike has 40mm carbs factory pro needles and 150 mains.
my road bike has 38mm (750) carbs factory pro needles and 145 mains.
my roadbike spent alot of time on the dyno with std 750 needle and had a huge hole in the midrange and the dyno operator wanted to go bigger on the mains to make up for it. is your guy doing the same?
i jetted the track bike myself and runs great dosen't blow any black smoke at all.
my road bike has seen a dyno but is way ritch down low with 145's (pilot is to big)
even if you order a stage 3 dynojet or factory pro kit it will come with 145 and 150 mains only no 170's in sight.
the biggest problem you will have is the the std needle cant be made rich enough therefore you will need the richer factory pro needle, you mechanic is problably sticking with the standard needle and just upping the main jet to fatten up the midrange. problem is it will then be to rich in other areas.
you mentioned that it dies at about 3500 (i bet under light throttle opening) - to rich. probably reads ok on the dyno cause he is using WOT an it may power through that section quickly (maybe)
what pilot jets are you running. from memory they are 35 or 37.5 from std. i will be going down to 32 soon as when i blip the throttle it blows alot of black smoke.
also on light throttle openings under 3000rpm it will cough and run shit because it is to rich on the pilot.
my next jetting session will see 32 pilots, factory pro needles with clip in middle position 145 mains will stay and fuel screw 2-1/2 turns out.
this will be a close base setting with only slight fine tuning to go from there.
like hooligan said he is using 135 and he has a big bore kit and would be putting out more power than your std 1100.
good luck with it all but i would i would just buy a factroy pro jet kit - it will make it a shit load easier

Thanks Deano.
I know I probably sound like a dick in all this jets or no jets info. I will print this thread out and pass it to my mechanic. Explain to him that you guys are experienced in playing with your respective similar bikes (so he doesnt get the shits thinking im saying he doesnt know his shit) and see where we end up.
I do honestly appreciate all your help.

Mine ended up with needles from a mid 90's gsxr 750 to fix the exact problem that deano described. I had it done on a dyno (guy was completly fucked, i wasted a lot of cash) then i sent it to Harley at RB racing in caringbah. He figured out the needles, and had it done in a day (after wanting to set the bike on fire cause the carbs were so fucked up).

Ok... below is an updated Dyno run for the Mongrel. They are making minor adjustments to the carbs etc before they remove my forks for re-chroming (bein that one is fucked). When the forks come back, they will do the final Dyno to get the actual HP figures.

Yeah Si,
Wasnt really happy with the last figure, so when they showed me the new figures... it made it all better lol... The next way Im thinking to increase that figure will no doubt cost me lotsa dollers specially when it will probably involve mucking around with internals...
Might be a while away.

Have you ridden it yet Jarrod? Or more importantly, have the dyno guys ridden it? When I got mine done first time around they just rolled it off the dyno and gave it to me - and it was fucked in the low / midrange area (even though the graphs said otherwise).
Just keep this in mind....although HP wise it's looking heaps better this time.

I know what your sayin hillsy. Last time my bike didnt want to rev cleanly past 3500rpm. They will take it for its final check up when the forks get re-chromed etc.
Hanging out big time

Hey Cavey,
Will try get a better pic shortly. The tail section if you look directly sidewards doesnt stick out further than the tyre (which is what I think your getting at).
