Hi all.

Just bought a suzuki gsxr 600 2003 model. problem is i used to have a learber licence but did not go and did my p test. Just a few question. How long is does the provisional last for, and what are the consequences if i get caught riding a bike that is not allowed to be ridden.

Much appreciated if you all can help me.

I thought it was 1 year on a 250 on your P's in NSW?

No theres a list in the rta and it show 0-660cc that are allowed and unfortunately mine is not there.

im pretty sure that the 0 - 660cc is for a single cylinder motorcycle only .. i could be wrong .. obviously urs will not be there being a 4 cylinder ... in vic ur L's is for 3 months then u go back for ur P's which ur restriction lasts for 12 months .. and then u can ride a bigger bike , its not about going fast but learning what u need to survive out there .. so stick to the 250 for a little while more m8

i got done once for evading my power restrictions and it was only an on the spot fine of $100 .. that was the only time they caught me hahahahaha
the bikes u will find on that list will be mainly road trail type bikes .. like tt-r 600 , xr 600 n shit like that obviously an xr 600 aint guuna have half the power of a gixxer 6 ..

De-badge the bike & go and by a 250 sticker and whack it on the swinger. Bike cops know better but it may make all the difference (it did on my 600 thumper long ago).

A good mate of mine got done on top of mt hotham just before the superbikes $130 and no points but the copper said he could make him trailer it home if he wanted to for riding a bike over a 250.He had only 2months till he was fully liecenced.

You'll probably get done for no L/P plate , Riding a bike your're not supposed to (used to be "exceeding 250cc", dunno what it'd be called now), plus whatever the cop pulled you over for, which would probably be your licence gone. If it was only a month or 2, cool, but a year? I couldn't do it. It also means that in ANY accident, it's your fault, 'cause you're riding illegally.
If you'd looked around, You'd have have seen that you can buy a restricted ducati monster 620 (it's only the throttle movement that's been restricted, i.e. you can't twist it to full throttle, and easy to de-restict).600cc Husky and ktm motards are learner legal, as is the honda rvf 400, which is good for at least 200kph.

This is the deal you can get you get your l's again since youve had them before you dont have to wait the minimum 3mths you can book in for your p's straight away.

Once you have your p's after doing the MOST (motor cycle operators skill test)you will go onto a 12-18mth period on your p's during this time you cant ride a gixer 600 if your over 30 though its different.

If you hold or are intitalled to a gold licence you will go straight onto an unrestricted license once doing the MOST meaning then you can ride what ever you want so then the gixer is fine.the only restrictions for this are no aclcohol in the blood stream meaning .00 and no pillians for the first twelve months.

If your not over the 30yrs mark you have to do it the other way 12-18mths on your p's then unrestricted.

By the way in NSW we have a L.A.M law this stands for LEARNER,APPROVED,MOTORCYCLE

Its a maximum of 660cc with a power to wieght ratio of 150kw's per tone.
It basicly means a single cylender dirt bike up to 660cc all the sports bikes brake the power to weight ratio out of the water.

There are some twins around like 620i monsta,650 hyasung,650 transalp.

So thats your delema if it aint on the RTA web site you cant ride it "legaly" in NSW :(

But you have to get pulled over to be caught out dont you;)

The law says no!

but you have to be caught in the act of riding it to be a prob:D
