Ok. Here we go. No buts or ifs, the Straightliners event will take place on the weekend of 23-24 Sep. I have to ride back from the GP which will take me up to at least Wednesday so if I can do that I don't want any lame excuses! Talking of which, if any Mexicans want to follow me up on that ride I can find some space for you to stay somewhere prior to the weekend as it's only about 1.5hrs from the Gold Coast.

We've got permission to use the strip for a 'time trial' style event,

This has given me an idea for one of the events...

They have these time trails in Japan... real tight circuit full of corrners and U turns very tight slaloms etc... I think that style of time trails would be good for a street fighter... Think about it... most are built for STREET FIGTING ie. riding in trafic, lots of quick short straights and lots of turning fast!!

OK GUYS!!!! IT'S ON!![}:)][}:)][}:)]
HERE IT IS -
The event will be a one day event on the 23rd of Sep held at Evans head Airstrip. There will be 1/4 mile & (probably....) top speed runs (thx to the local constabulary;)!!). Runs will take place in pairs or (if you want to) singularly.
There will be a max amount of 50 entrant bikes only - each entrant bike will be $50.
Each bike can bring a max of 2 spectators/support crew/family/ambulance officers.. with them - cost for each of the above will be $10.
As mentioned above the local rozzers have been invited along (they seem pretty cool - even keen! - about the whole thing!), and there will be St Johns Ambulance for all who can't keep it in one piece on a 3 mile long straight piece of tarmac!!!
I'm trying to get a couple of local hot dog van type thingies to come along, so there should be refreshments available on the day. There is a bog on site.
I need firm applications [b][u]NOW</u> to stu@austreetfighter.com.au with a pic/specs of the bike you intend to run & details of any hangers-on you'll be bringing. You will be e-mailed an application/indemnity form which you must fill in & return to me. Payment details will be forwarded with the form.
This WILL be classed as a private event - so there will be no ring-ins or rubber neckers allowed. if you don't get your entry in to me in time - DON'T BOTHER COMING BECAUSE YOU WON'T BE STAYING!:(
RAPID magazines Jeff & Pete will probably be there too, so if you want some nice photo opportunities make sure you wear clean undies!!!
Accomodation can be found at a number of local motels. I am in the process of teeing up contact details for all the nearest ones - these details will be posted here soon. It's up to each person to book their own accomodation after that.
More updates to follow soon.
Get your details in to me NOW!!!!!!:D

ATTENTION FELLOW VICTORIANS;
Right, who's up for Straightliners?
As us Mexicans are hard-as-nails seasoned long distance motorcycle event travellers (as evidenced by our presence at the Fools Run) I'm sure we can manage a crew to show up all the Walers & Queens.
I am definately in - provided I'm not going alone of course - I'm not rich you know, I have a modified bike habit to support!
I'll be taking my ZX9 racebike which is not registered & I propose we hire a truck of some sort (a dual cab pantech would be ideal), chuck the bikes in the back & share the driving so we can drive straight through, this will minimise costs, preserve licences & speed the whole process up in terms of not needing accommodation on the way up & back.
Bear in mind that this is the weekend straight after the GP at the Island so all you FUCKING PUSSIES who require another leave pass from the missus better factor that in & start your pathetic grovelling & pleading now. I for one will still be recovering from an industrial strength hangover as will most ASF GP attendees if I can help it, another factor to consider.
This is straight off the top of my shiny head so feel free to contribute any suggestions for or against & we'll work out a plan.
Remember - The pride of our State rests with YOU & if you're not there, those who are will talk about you. [:0]
Straightliners - Just like a real race without corners! :D

Great to see all the responses already! Keep 'em coming and this thing may just well turn out to be a success!!
I've been think about the format & this is the first plan -
Start at between 8-9AM & go to 4-5PM. We split the 1/4 mile & top speed runs into 2 lots, 1/4 mile runs AM & top speed runs PM..
I figure if we run the 1/4 miles in pairs everyone should get around 4 runs in (that's with 50 bikes), and if the top speed runs are done singularly then this means everyone should get 2 runs in...
I don't want to run an 'eliminator' type set-up as this is intended to give everyone an equal amount of fun - no matter what they're riding!
I'm thinking about coming up with a formula which includes total run times, number of runs and engine capacity to give everyone a fair share at some kind of 'trophy' at the end of the day....? Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

It's coming thick & fast now!!!
Here's details for local accomodation -
Evans Head Pacific Motel (rooms around $65-$75 per night, plenty of availability)- 02 6682 4318
Woodburn Motel (10k's away on Hwy - rooms from $50 per night, plenty of availability) - 02 6682 2486 / 0427 099 954
Evans Head Silver Sands Caravan Park (they have around 60 cabins, but are pretty full already!) - 02 6682 4212

Also, apparently the local Real Estates will sometimes book out holiday units for a couple of nights -
02 6682 4611
02 6682 6226
02 6682 6000

Hey Stu how about marking or labeling the bikes after each run, Say each bike has an allocation of 4 runs for the AM after each run where the time is recorded there bike gets tagged with one of those hosptial wrist bands around the middle of the handlebars or somewhere. Red bands are for the 4 x AM 1/4 mile runs and say blue bands are for the 2x top speed runs or something like that.

Also maybe Allocate 1/4 Pairs due to Engine size/mods keep it interesting and a few of the slower contenders interested and Up hearted.

hey is anyone bringing a laptop to record times and do print outs? could be fun

I think it will be a case of go as hard as you can till point x , more like a long drag race. Just need to figure out where the safe point x needs to be.a lot of the US stuff is over a mile or 1 is 9/10mile if we can get 1.6kms and safely slow in the next 1.4 then the speeds will be comparable with other sites.
The main thing will be to get together, do something a bit different and have fun.:D
Radar may not work well , i have a garmin etrex that registers top speed , if others have one or similar they could be used to register speeds if the radar is inconsistant. i have had readings from my jacket pocket at Winton trackdays.

If you do it that way you wont be breaking Burt's (or anyone elses) record.

I may not know Burt's record speed...but I'm pretty sure the record can only be set by being timed over a measured distance...most likely a mile....Which brings me back to original point;

Your right Large, no one will be breaking Burts record, the class he ran in is nearly opposite a streetfighter and a recognised event and certified timing equipment would be needed.
I do hope some can go faster .
I'll look into the distance required thing for interest sake, on the Aussie salt lakes the first timers are 1/4 mile (3-3 1/4)apart and a record can be set in that distance then every mile and an average taken over that mile for a speed. The US airstrips i think are like the drags where the speed is measured in a short distance at the end of the standing start mile, bike record there is higher than on the salt due to better traction.

---transmission ends---

Here you go NTB

Holidaying in sunny northern NSW last couple of weeks and just happened to be in Alstonville ~40kms from the Evans Head airstrip .
I like[:p] generaly nice hotmix on the closest runway to the gate (didn't wander all over) , well protected from wind.
Hope the locals like bikes, the town is on the other side of the road.

Can't Wait :D:D:D
